Had the perfect storm going this morning in Michigan. Toms to the right and talkative hens to the left. One of the toms made a mistake and flew down early, spotted my decoys and strutted in to 28yds before I put his lights out at 6:15. Was going to try and get it on video but it was too dark. Two down and one to go, heading for Wisconsin on the 8th. 22.5 # 10.5" beard 3/4" blunted off spurs Good job. You are obviouly way more than lucky.

Finally got my turkey this morning just after 7am. 26 lbs, 11" triple beard & 1 3/8" spurs. I heard a single gobble as I was walking in. Then 2 more about 100 yds straight ahead of me. Same place I'd heard them a couple days ago. Got the decoys out & settled in my ground blind. All 3 kept gobbling until about 6:45. Saw the 2 fly down thru the trees. About 10 minutes later a hen pops up to my right & moves towards my decoys. She wanders around a bit then heads straight for my blind. Shes hanging out 5 yds in front of me but keeps looking back into the woods. Sure enough here comes 2 toms & another hen. The toms strut for a bit & make a move for my decoys only to turn around & retreat. Then back towards the decoys again. The big one looked kind of jumpy so I shifted in my chair, shouldered my gun, put the red dot on his noggin & fired. A couple of flops & he's done at 45 steps. imgur.com/ogPs5nVimgur.com/6kDPXHQimgur.com/09lpkr2Congratulations! Those are some nice looking spurs!

It seems that hearing birds, seeing a birds and killing birds is down this year... Wonder why?

So far the real problem has been getting them to react to the calls to the point of actually coming in. I mean I'm no worse at it this year than in years past. JDUB's girl's father is saying the same thing

I’ve been out here in Parke Co since light and haven’t seen or heard a thing. Only song birds. Beautiful but quiet as a church mouse in regards to turkeys.

Had a slow morning yesterday however at around noon I had one come in silent. Problem was I was sitting against tree with my gun on my left knee pointing to where I thought he'd be coming. He came in over my right shoulder. I tried to move the gun to my left hand and shoot him but in the process I smacked my barrel against a tree in front of me. Damn 28 inch barrel. I laugh now but wasn't laughing yesterday. Needless to say I didn't kill him. Back out today in a blind. Heard much more gobbling this morning but so far no birds. Noble county.

They are acting funny I think due to the late green-up. I put down some leather this morning just trying to find a turkey in the only area I have seen a bird. No gobbles, no turkeys, anywhere. I've also been driving from Indy to Illinois the last week and haven't seen a turkey in a field. I think numbers are down, maybe due to the severe cold we had. Worst hunting I have seen the first week of season.

They can still see so far in the woods right now I don’t think they’re coming in as far as they usually do, because they don’t see anything where they think they should. Or they see the hunter because it’s still so open.

Just had 3 hens pop out of the woods 150 yd southeast of me. I know they can see my decoys. Just gave a few soft clucks and purrs.

Well wouldn't ya know it. Coyote came across the field and chased the hens back into the woods! That moment was the only turkey sounds I heard all morning other than my calling!

So I'm sitting in the woods on a hillside watching some hens feed in the field below me when suddenly I hear two gobbles in the other woods I hunt just on the other side of the field. Both hens immediately start yelping and one of them even flies to the gobbler. How am I supposed to compete with that haha

Today there was not one sound or sighting in my neighborhood. I think schall53 is to blame

I have noticed an drop off of sightings this year of turkeys. My wife usually hears them in the morning getting ready and has heard none. It’s weird.

For two seasons around my area non of the hens hatched any eggs. The flock has been cut by 70% the last few years. I've taken a lot of raccoons out the past two seasons and hope that some of the remaining 12-15 hens are successful. I hope in a month or so I see some young Jake's and Jennies following their mother hen.

If I were to blame seeing and hearing fewer turkeys this year, I going with preditors. We have way too many coons, yotes, possums and now bobcats. Saw 3 yotes first day of youth hunt and one today. Absolutely ignored decoys and calling; not sure what I think about that. Perhaps they only take out young turkeys.
