Personally, I believe it is real...the author brings out some excellent points.
Anyone is smart enough to know that any claim of a world record will be put through a trial and a microscope..
Four expert witnesses that actually held the antlers should be enough evidence..

I agree with Woody's reasoning. It does make me sad how much controversy kicks up every time a big deer is taken. How about getting back to everyone just enjoying getting out and spending their time outdoors

If you watch the interview that Mike Avery did with Rompola several years before he killed this buck (now posted on youtube), you can tell the guy knew what he was talking about when it came to deer and deer hunting.
Was the deer legit? I've always thought it was and that Rompola was totally unprepared for the onslaught of attention he received.
Can you imagine how nuts it would be today?

If it's truly legit then why not agree to the x-ray that seems to be the hold up?
I agree just by reading the article it seems legit!

Passed up money for X-ray of deer. Signed agreement with Milo Hanson not to call a world record. Refused to sign score sheet. Lots of negative going against him. It’s no wonder it’s being criticized by people. He created his own mess.

I always thought it was real. I don't think the guy wants to deal with all the drama. The whitetail hunting community can be viscous to people who shoot big bucks. I don't know why, jealousy I guess. I've seen it happen to a friend of mine. As far as not getting it X-rayed, he's not trying to enter it into the record books. He knows if it's real or not. Why should he have it X-rayed just to prove it to other people.

Many simply cannot into today's modern era understand a hunter not wanting the fame....from everything I've read, heard or those I've spoken to from the area say Mitch 100% got burned and has/had zero desire to be involved in the "industry" or known.

Wonder why someone would be a scorer for both B&C and P&Y then not want to be so called involved? That always made me scratch my head. Strange Bird I guess...

I always felt like it was legit and he got bullied over by Hanson's group. For all we know the Hanson group may have paid him off to keep it out of the record books?

The only thing that strikes me as unusual is in those 2 photos of dead deer I don't see a bloody wound or nasal/mouth blood.

by some accounts the guy is very strange and reclusive, so maybe he didn't want all the drama with it being a record but didn't mind showing it off a little

As mentioned above, I think this was a case of bullying and pressure by Milo and his "investors". Milo makes a LOT of money off of the world record and for some reason the powers that be have hitched their wagon to him. In the interviews with him and the depiction of his "hunt" seem to be a bit off to me as well. I have also heard stories of just how aggressive he can be about any claims challenging the record. We may never know just why Mitch caved but given his history of killing big bucks I will give HIM the benefit of the doubt.

Personally,I have always believed this to be real. To me,Mitch seems somewhat "fascinating",clearly, He is an excellent deer hunter and a loner. I would be willing to bet my new rifle there are more people like Mitch than you think. Younger hunters would likely not believe this, but a few decades ago, when you killed a big buck(we killed, not harvested, lol)you kept quiet about about it. It is my belief, there is quite possibly a world record rack hanging in the shed somewhere that the hunter and VERY FEW of his friends know about.
