I got all my soil turned. Lime Sunday and fertilizer on Monday. I can't lift all the bags in one day.

It called limiting the damage to your body according to my physical therapist, she is a pretty smart cookie ! I used to push Everything I did to the Limit & now as an older man I am paying for it ! She has taught me to take breaks & it all doesn't have to be done today .

I take lots of breaks. I feel busy all day unless I'm napping, but I'm not accomplishing much compared to a health person. I've accepted it even though it is a bit embarrassing at times.

I put in 1 or 2 micro plots a year with varying success. I don't have any equipment and usually I'm planting way in the back of my property so it's hard work since I have to carry everything in.
Usually I go in with my brushcutter and knock everything down and spray the area with roundup. A week or 2 later I throw down some fertilizer, rough up the soil and plant. I usually do red clover near the end of August or early September.
Last year clover looked great and I came back a few weeks later and everything was dead almost bare to the dirt. On the advice of some of the folks here, I put down some rye grass at the last minute and it turned out alright.
Not sure what I'll do this year. My brushcutter broke down this weekend so a lot will depend on whether that can be fixed. I'm also a little over the back breaking work each year.
I've been thinking about some different options that last a little longer such as fruit trees or hinge cutting more, but I got a lot going on this year so I wouldn't be surprised if I don't get to it.

Believe it or not throw & grow is better than nothing & it grows , yes it has rye grass in it mostly but the extreme radishes keep them interested till the snow came

I got the lime and weak spraying of nitrogen worked in today. It was hard work for me, but mostly just from the lifting.
I'll pick up the 12-12-12 Monday and work it in.

How far away from Greenwood do you live? My hunting land is way way south. Well, I'm not, but you're probably 2.5 hours away from me. If you want to use my equipment, you are welcome to it. I have an ATV and disk that will help. I don't want anything I can't share ...well, maybe my old wife, but if anyone else wanted her, I wouldn't have gotten her. I can't fit both on my trailer at the same time or I might be tempted to make a trip your way.

What kind of weed spray is ok to use on an area that I would like to plant some whitetail Institute bow stand mix? I will probably add extra white Dutch clover and maybe one more shade tolerant species. What fertilizer as well?

Wooooohooooooo! I'm ready for seed. I'll probably run the drag over it again, and then start seeding. I should have enough corn for 2ac, but I guess I'll see tomorrow. I have a one row seeder I bought from Rural King. This is going to help with the corn. However, I don't know that I can walk that far ...we'll find out.
I have over 2K pumpkin seeds. LOL I didn't know I bought so many. I hear they are planted in mounds??? Anyone planted them before? I guess these will all be planted by hand. Looks like I'll be planting for 2 days.

Rake up a little mound maybe 18" diameter by 6" tall, plant (6) seeds around the top of the mound. Space mounds about 10' apart.

Finally made it to the plots late last week to mow! Winter Rye looking good. I was worried about the clover back in February but as you can see in the close up, the clover is doing well. I'm sure the deer are enjoying the plots everyday and that just puts the biggest smile on my mug every time I think of it!

I'm planting in Switzerland county tomorrow and have the Soil Conservation office no till planter reserved. Sunflower, corn, and forage beans. Rain on Thursday will help germinate the seed. Planting about 4 acres total.

I bit off more than I could chew. I would seed a row and back, and have to lie down each time. Sometimes I was down 20 minutes and sometimes 5. I knew I was in trouble after the first row. The vultures were circling me like my exwife during our divorce. They knew I was just too tired to fight them off and it wouldn't be long. I got over half the corn in and the bed made for the deer. With corn all around it, maybe they'll feel safe. I put up a sign, "Big Ten only".
