Why discriminate 18 and younger? It should be for none or all. Same for motorcycles.

ATV are not allowed on public streets, most of them. This is another big brother law against private property owners. They or any state does not have the right to pass laws for non public land. Laws like that needs to be removed from the books or stated on public streets only. I'm all for safety, but not big government telling me what I can or can't do.

Actually, must counties allow ATV use on the roadways by licensed drivers.

Nope, but all the kids that keep getting severely injured and killed lately haven't been on the public roadway either. Hey, did you know you can get arrested for OWI on private property - even on a lawnmower?

I agree @waynes I feel like if I want to shoot guns in my back yard I should be able to! The man is keeping me down though.

I think it's generally a good thing, similar to kids wearing life vests on boats. By the time you're 18 though, you're old enough to weigh the risks and make up your own mind. I feel the same about seat belt laws.

I'm just saying there are a lot of bad laws in this country that does not separate public from private property. I'm 100% for safety, but I respect the landowner to be able to protect his way of life. Yes, if careless on safety, then it's their issue, not all the other landowners etc.

Waynes, I agree with you but with one difference (or maybe no difference at all since you haven't voiced your opinion on what I'm about to say).
It's a proven fact that helmets reduce the risk of a head injury if worn. That's a given. I feel that if a person is not wearing a helmet and gets a head injury, then their insurance shouldn't cover their head injuries. Only covered by insurance for head injuries if wearing a helmet. Would the insurance rates go down a bit then?
I wear my seatbelt 99.9999% of the time while driving. I absolutely hate the dang seatbelt warning buzzer that keeps on chiming. Sure, ding a few times but after a minute, shut up. There's plenty of times that I'm only going a few hundred feet and the thing just won't shut up.

I was just stating the laws are created and sometimes discriminate by age and between public/private property. I should be able to walk on my property without wearing a helmet as an example, but walking in public may require helmets. So next year they pass a law requiring that you have to wear a helmet when walking. When will big brother stop telling us what we can or can't do. I'm wiser then the average bear. LOL

This short version of why this law came into effect is this.
Parents let young daughter hang out a friends house. Parents of friend allow girls to ride ATV without a helmet. Girl dies when ATV rolls. Parents start a group to preach the obvious.
I dont agree with laws like this, but they do save tax payers millions of dollars a year, just like seat belt laws.

The rest of it is the fact that, as you know, there are ATV accidents involving kids every single weekend. Some days multiple accidents.
