It looks like I'm in Benton County. If it's NW Indiana, I'll need to pack a lunch for the trip, and maybe stop for a nap.

I think my area is 40ac. I'm sure I'll have trouble walking it, but the information did say we could stop for lunch and come back. I'll be slow, but if they give me time, I walk most of it. I'll lay down on the ground until I can walk more. Dale, I feel like a kid at Christmas just getting drawn for the hunt.

Have been fortunate to be on two of these hunts and both have been fun. I have two roosters mounted from the first hunt. Take your time and realize the birds are very smart. All areas have birds and you can hunt from time stated at your leisure. The areas are easily marked with the map you get but you won't find much info on them. Good luck and dogs aren't necessary bug do help in recovery as some areas are really thick.

What do they do that makes them smart? ...even thought I won't be able to outsmart them.

You are allowed a total of 3 hunters, make one of those a person with a good dog. These pheasant hunts are not a walk in the park as some make think they are.

They have been hunted a lot and are naturally spooky. Lots of things tip them off such as voices, car doors etc. Generally they will sit and let you pass or run before you get there before flying. A good technique for you may be just setting up as a blocker and try intercept them as they are flushed and trying to get to the neighboring property.

I have been told a good dog is almost a required piece of equip on these hunts. Very brushy and birds are tough as nails, no pen birds there. I have never been but good friend has couple times. Each time they knocked birds down but lost them even with a good retriever.
Good luck. I have been putting in for these hunts for a LONG LONG time...never once have I been drawn. I think it may be rigged😂

Two adults get to hunt with the youth.

How does the drawing work ? do you get to pick where you want to hunt ?or does the DNR get to pick where you hunt ?

Since I live in the upper part of lake county , there is a great chance that the area that they pick could be in the southern part of Indiana ? Or will they choose a place near you ?
