Well I had a good weekend down on the farm except for the random rain shower we got Friday kind of halted my operation for a bit. I was able to get my 2 acre field mowed in preparation for spraying and planting fall food plots. I also mowed and cleared all of the ATV paths as well. From what I saw this weekend while in the woods and also from checking the camera we left out over a feeder we have a very healthy population of does and fawns at our place they were everywhere! Oh and to Mr. Jon Snows point I sure do have a lot of fat coons running around. Every time a deer was at the gravity feeder eating a raccoon was waiting underneath for anything that fell to the ground. I think I need a gravity feeder. I haven't looked at them before, but anything to keep the coons from eating the bulk of it would be nice. I wish the deer would chase the coons away; they'll chase each other away. I got a video of treehead being chased away by a doe. It doesn't seem that any of them chase away big 10. That's wonderful that you have so many does and fawns! Those buck bait girls will come in handy this fall. I wish I had a few more. I thought that I'd take one this year, but I don't think I will as I didn't see any fawns. .

We got an inch of rain tail end of last week and all plots are looking good. Brassicas planted near Aug 1 are popping up nicely.

I know I say, think and do some crazy things, but I've got another idea.
My cedar post worked fine as far as the bucks licking the branch, but they never tried to rub it. In a couple weeks, I'm going down south to see a friend who has cedar trees and extra bark. I'm going to get some of that bark and glue it to my cedar post. I'll be as giddy as a kid at Christmas if they rub it.

I plan on discing & planting next weekend as I took Monday off to make sure rain don't spoil my plans . I feel alittle pressure to get them in but I am planting in the southern part of the state so I should still be ok . Steiny the blind turned out good , finally a place for bad weather hunts ! How are your plants doing? I just got everything in the ground yesterday finally! I had a family emergency & the weather has been messing planting dates up . Good news is the family member is ok & after planting yesterday it rained overnight & this morning. I planted oats , radishes, turnips and clover mixture. Here is a picture of one of the smaller plots

It's amazing how deer hunting seems to turn us into farmers!

A good friend helped us out with his big orange tractor and disc today. It was a long day but we got all the seeds in the ground and ran the cultipacker over them, nearly an acre total. Need to do a rain dance or two now.

Thanks Jon. This friend was about a 30 to 45 minutes from the plots which just made things much easier as well. Your equipment would have done a fine job and as I said before, I GREATLY appreciate you for even offering it up to me!

Checked on my food plots this weekend and it doesn't look good. My guess is a lot of the seed was flooded out by the 11 straight days of rain immediately after I planted. The best looking thing is my clover and it was on the highest point. What can I top dress them with with minimal working of the soil and still get something usable? One is approximately 1/4 of an acre and the other 2 are strips approximately 25' wide by 75 yards long.

Mowed my clover off today and fertilized part of my turnips, oats amd raddishes. Not sure what it will do to it. I've never fertilized after the plants came up. I did notice there was not as much oats as I'd like. Usually I plant them separately, but bought a mixture of oats and winter peas this year. Don't know what a small winter peas plant looks like, but I don't think I've seen one yet. Hopefully I can make it over to the farm I hunt this week with the Bush hog and mow the roads and move a box blind.

My sugar beets look really good.

Looks good , the oats might be getting mowed over by the deer faster than you can see . I see so oats in your picture , I will get to check mine this coming weekend . Good luck

My brassicas look like that too. Food plots have really done great this year. If we get a hard winter and some snow and cold temps in late muzzy and archery season, it will be fun.

Well just got an update from a buddy who hunts our place. One plot looks pretty good but the other two are growing but just at a slower rate. I am really not surprised it was about 9-10 days before they got a rain after I planted so hopefully things will catch up.
