I've got a lot of standing dead or soon to be dead ash trees in my woodlots. Wondering if these have any timber vale, and if anyone here has an experience getting these removed / sold.

Had a forester look things over last week to see if it made sense to harvest the Ash. Sounds like it does. He's supposed to be putting together a proposal to do the marking, measuring, estimating quantity, and handling the sale.

Just went to the Louisville slugger factory last weekend. I wonder if they are stockpiling ash? In 10 yrs it will be rare to see ash bats.

You don't see wood bats in college down anymore. Maybe a fungo bat, but not for game hitting.

I'm using my dead to almost dead ash trees in a different way. I'm in the process digging a 2/3ft deep by 50ft by 50ft wide and laying the trunks and branches in the trench. I am then covering with 6-8" of topsoil. This will be my new garden area. It will take around 3 years for the wood to start breaking down. Should be really good soil and last a very long time. Of course, I will be adding some worms to help with the process.

If MLB goes to metal bats, somebody will die. is this a threat? Lol, i probably could have phrased that better. Someone will die from a ball that gets hit off a metal bat.

If MLB goes to metal bats, somebody will die. The non wood bats coupled with hgh supliments makes for a dangerous line drive.

I played slow pitch softball about 7 years ago. The bats they had then when they were broke in would send a rocket out, someone said that from the factory they come off the bats at well over 90mph, some of the broken in bats would top out at 110+. Very scary stuff and that is just soft ball.

Yes those ash trees are worth selling for timber. Since there are so many that firewood is practically free, it makes timber even more attractive and you can still cut up what is left for firewood. They make great blinds to hunt or shoot from as well. To me they are worth more used these ways than firewood. You can build these up about as easy as cutting up firewood and stacking it and you can hunt, shoot deer, turkey, sit in a dry spot, get out of the wind. Use these how ever you want for years and they are still just as good for firewood. Just use what ever junk is left in the piles after you've cut your logs, got some firewood. Just stack up what ever you are tired of fooling with. Cleans it up out of the way and may be puts it to use a little bit.

That's pretty darned cool Jack ! I love old school blinds built of natural materials. They are a whole lot better concealment that these silly pop up tent blinds and box blinds. If you could figure a way to elevate the floor level 4' you could do away with the orange flag requirements during firearms season too. Side note ..... when the crazies open up with their 30-06's this fall, you might be glad you are sitting behind a wall of thick logs

Talked to a guy about them , he is a tree specialist, and he said in a year or two it will be safe to plant ash again and even now you can plant ash. They don't seem to bother the younger trees for some reason. All the big ash are dead at my place but all the 3" dia havn't been touched. So if they run out of the tree size they like they will die out for a while. The beetles that is.

My land owner mentioned something about his ash trees dying. A couple years ago, he lost some poplar.
