I weighed the cases again I think I did it right this time. I got about 56 to 57 gr. Of water. About the same as a 308 case Looks like you could use 358 Winchester load data with that modified case. Case cap of a 308 is 56 and case cap of the 7.62x54r is 64.2 ,only 3mm difference in length on original cases. Pretty good idea there on case design. that would work good in a Encore rifle or pistol. Now lets see some groups and some velocity's when we get some nicer weather. Nice job

Thanks, I think if Indiana didn't have these goofy gun rules there would be a lot less reloaders and wildcat development. I never messed with turning barrels and forming brass, it's forced me to jump into gun and ammo development and it's fun. I'm hooked

It may not be a way to strike it rich (in dollars), but it can lead to many hours of enjoyment and satisfaction with what you have accomplished. Of course, you must always be careful in many different ways, and extra careful with wildcats. Never be afraid to ask questions. Looking forward to your posting some targets and load information with velocities.

Thanks , I'm working on tapering a barrel blank, anyone use the green mountain barrels? They're cheap, hope it shoots as well as the benchmark barrel does

Have you had any issues with the bores opening up after contouring.

I've read on line where some people have had the bore enlarge from turning the the barrel blank down, and also about stress releaving the barrel after turning.

Nope nothing like that ever happening, haven't heard anyone having a issue like that either. But after you contour the barrel you can send it out to be stress relieved , like the cryo freeze. I haven't sent any out but have heard of others doing it. I wouldn't think it would be a big issue with this caliber, maybe smaller caliber or long range barrels it may affect more.

I thought there would be hundreds of bad shooting mosins out there! Was just at a auction with a few guns there and they had 2 Mosins. One Mosin rifle that went for $125 and a Mosin carbine that went for $225. I was interested in a different one , brand, that I bought after the mosins. If I wasn't interested in that I would have got one of the Mosins to convert over.

That's a decent price, I've been looking for a receiver to blow out cases with, there are a lot of gun shows to check. I hope they don't ban importations permanently!

Since that is a rimmed case you should be able to fire form with what you want to hunt with. No need to fire form prior to using. When I make my 7-30 waters cases I load them the same as I would the fire formed ones.
