why do yall need a november season for youth? Can you not take said youth now in November? Oh wait, i see...you dont want to give up a day you could be hunting in order to leave your gun at home and take a kid. got it.
its real simple math, put a child before yourself.
I support the current youth weekend, simply because I know theres so many "hunters" that wont give them the time during "their" season

I would like to see it moved back a couple of weeks - KY has a M/L weekend in mid October and somehow the bow hunters survive down there. 2nd weekend in Oct.; CHANCES ARE BETTER for a cooler weekend, close it to adult hunters (Oh how the howls of pain will commence). As for that, really; with all the time there is to hunt one weekend still well before the rut is going to kill you!? I have been mentoring since Youth Weekend came in to existence and JDUB has taken deer and had shots, Andrew should have had deer - that was his own fault. I still believe between temps and giving it a few more weeks for things to thin out (it is really thick right now) - this is likely more important - would provide for a better experience. The young kids in particular may not know any better but I firmly believe it is our responsibility for the future of hunting to provide as good an experience as we can for them; while this still is not a peak time it is headed in the right direction (I believe) - it is a compromise that I would like to see happen but I doubt enough would be willing to make. At least we have something, better than nothing. I agree with Dave.... During the youth hunts at Timex's place the woods was so thick deer could get by the youths at 20 yards and never be seen if they were in blinds.... Probably a moot discussion at this point as I don't think it will ever happen. It was tough enough to get a youth weekend to begin with, then go back and get a youth buck for them and then go back AGAIN and get the county limit for them.

Its funny that what some may consider a weak argument others recognize as undeniable, concrete facts. There was no youth season and everyone is able to hunt throughout the season. Those are facts. They were good arguments when the youth season was presented. They were not strong enough to prevent a youth season, so how are they strong arguments to move the dates of the current season? If I was against something happening, I would want to use more valid points than something that didn't work in the first place.

Who ever said they were? I simply said they are concrete facts .... because they are.
We are just having a conversation of what we would want or not want ... I dont need to convince anyone here of anything. The season is not changing. I like the season where it is. I will take my kids hunting anytime they want to go regardless if it is their "special" season or not.

The propose of Youth weekend was to provide dates that a youth and mentor could hunt without the presedents of the public hunting also. Can you post your source? That was my opinion from my view of the input and history ..... If you really need a source for your question call the IDNR in Indy they should be able help !!! As Woody has stated the Bowhunters are/was a factor in the dates also!!!

Kids get from 10/1 until January to hunt if their parents are willing to take them. Why fuss about specially designated "youth weekends"? The sad fact is over 90% of the kids probably (shooting from the hip here) that partake in the youth days, are the ones that hunt with parents on and off throughout the year anyways...or even by themselves depending on their age. I am fine with it the way it is now, and when (if God willing) I have kids I'll hopefully take them during it, however you cannot legislate good parenting like I think we attempt to do with this weekend. Kids can and should hunt all year, no special days are needed - but we got em so eh let's keep em I guess.

Do you know the factual answer to that question?

Wow, al lot of emotion here. It is always a sacrifice to put anyone first, but the effort here to encourage young people with an early season all their own is a worthy, worth while cause. Yes it may put some at a disadvantage but it's good in the long run for the future of our sport. I say, leave it alone.

In Illinois the youth season is the second weekend in Oct. Most people complain it is too early for the kids as well but the state has come up with a bit of a compromise. If a youth hunter does not fill his tag during the youth season he or she can use it during the 1st gun season in IL. So why couldn't Indiana so something similar.
Also I want to point out that during the youth season in Illinois bow hunters can still hunt they just have to wear orange while in the field. Seems to work out fine in our messed up state.

Being pretty recent to the hunting world, don't have much past experience with it. But for us, youth weekend has become more about the "event" itself than just hunting. Between some past group events and now on our own this year, it about camping, camp fires (though nothing will probably ever touch the old youth bonfires!), eating chili, etc. Oh, and we get to haul out the rifle and have a sit in the woods. Later in the fall it will just be about getting out to hunt. High schools comes next year, and with it the homecoming dance that may be on the same weekend. But for now, it was a fun chance to get away.

Why in the world would we do something without a purpose or a mission? I grab toilet paper from the roll for a purpose. I asked the question because I would like to see if the purpose or mission of adding a youth season was being met. It most likely is. I am too old to know what adding the youth season was proposed to do and too young to have kids involved in it at the beginning. My son has participated in the youth hunt for the last 4 or 5 years and I have made some observations as a result of those hunting experiences. In regards to Ohio, do you want facts or my opinion?

I would like to see Indiana open the Archery Season in early or mid September statewide for everyone. In the early morning it is often cool outside even in September. Kentucky and several other states have early and mid September starting dates for deer season and it has worked out great.
It's also a great time to take does for meat over soybean fields and other food sources. It's a great time to take a Velvet Buck also.
If Indiana opened season in early or mid September those who want to hunt then could, those who don't wouldn't have to. It would simply provide more opportunity.

Youth don't even have to buy deer tags here. Only a $7 license that covers any hunting they do in Indiana, any time of the year.
Illinois also has 2 separate 3-day firearms seasons that miss most of the rut. I think youth get a lot more opportunity here.

I'm in favor of a change to a later date. - large majority of us hunters knows deers are still in their summer patterns in sept. This means in the corn/ bean fields. - because of this, bow hunters during opener ideally aim to hunt those field edges, i.e. private property. - as a public land hunter, that means good luck taking the kiddoes out to hunt where you hung stands for firearms season. (Have yet to even see a deer in the woods during youth season after 3 years of trying). - I do take the kiddos out with me during firearms seasons so they'll get to truly enjoy the woods with deers moving through it BUT safety measures and concerns are extremely elevated. (If you hunt public land you know exactly what I'm talking about) - giving the kids their special season is awesome but I know they now go half heartedly because year after year we see no deers in the woods till later in the season, i.e. gun season. - do more scouting you say, I bet you i do that more than most and can tell you with confidence that to get to the back side of most private properties (ag fileds) which backs against public land is not a trek a responsible parent would take a youth on so they can hunt those edges in Sept.
