Yep they are very talkative here as well. Half hour later and they are still talking and milling around down there,. 8:00 and we had a hen at 17 yards didn't even know it. I did some purrs and startled her. Those Toms circled us and headed off to the west

Been out with my nephew. His very first turkey hunt and he's jacked up as he could be. 13 yrs old and he's only squirrel hunted. I'm set up with GoPro 12 yds north of he and his other uncle. Gobblers sounding off everywhere. Flydown and now we work em up here near Mill Creek (LaPorte).

Ive got 4 dekes out in the CRP strip. 3 hens and the funky chicken. Nice gobbler flew...more like dropped down and is gobblin and struttin at far treeline. Had hens yelping like ive never heard. This wingbone yelper is proving to be awesome as far as I can tell on getting response from both hens and gobblers on the roost.

In advance...my apologies to team #7... I've only been out once hunting a bird for myself. Have now guided 3 hunts for others and 2 of those are first timers who are absolutely hooked now! Dont think I'll do much to contribute to our score...sorry! I just get so stoked working these birds for new hunters especially!!!

Dont think I'll do much to contribute to our score...sorry! I just get so stoked working these birds for new hunters especially!!! Ain't it a blast. I could care less if I shoot one in Indiana again. Just love calling them in and seeing the look on their face when he's rattling the woods. I always look at the gun barrel when he first pops in to sight and haven't yet seen one doing figure eights. Course my buddy killed a flat out monster this year so I had to mope around for a bit cause that was my bird. So dang happy for him deep down though. He's a great friend and deserved it. He's killed two monsters in 3 years with me. He's going to realize it isn't this easy sometime. Working on my daughter now. I get this week to myself though. Great times.

Not as gobbling now much but occasionally. I moved to set up on one and two does came up and absolutely penned me down. Spent 15 minutes circling, head bobbing, foot stomping, blowing. I wanted to shoot them in the butt! They finally left.
I moved to another spot to set up on one I hadn't heard before. Had one gobbling to my left and one to my right. Hoping at least one comes by here.

We still have birds in the area sounding off. Sounds like there are 2 down in the bottom to the south maybe 100 yards or so; can't see, had 1 response to a call. Don't want to over do it. Come on get out of there..,,,,

They've gone tight lipped here. No gobbles for at least 30 min. I guess it's down to "deer hunting" them now. I'm overlooking a holler where I see a lot of turkeys during deer season so I guess that's fitting. I'm going to try to sit here till about noon unless one gives me a reason to move.

After watching gobbler strut for what seemed like hours...he just went in a slow circle and probably never outside a 5 foot diameter strut dance...he meandered to woods and we could hear hen with him. My dekes are no match to her! Weve decided to move in a bit closer and I now switch to sitting with my nephew while BIL is down 20 yds. Very cool discussion with nephew. Got him working my box call some. He got first gobbler to respond. The look on his face, well priceless. That look alone was like he had just shot the bird he is so excited! Hes carrying a Rossi single shot with modified choke. I have a chance to explain the difference between his gun and mine and the range and the pattern of different shots and so on! I'm sure I'm in trouble with my sister as he is already convinced he will tell his mom and dad when he gets home..."Uncle Dean says I need a new turkey gun and I like his Mossberg or maybe an 870!!!"

Silly gobbler behind us wont shut up. Gobblin all morning long. He cant be more than 70 yard in the woods but cant pull him from hen. Meantime, nephew having a blast with box call. Every few minutes he calss and the tom gobbles. Too much talking. Probably...if I really cared more about taking a bird right now. What is more important to me is that he is so hooked. I just gave him my call...told him he works it better than me...he deserves it! Now my sister gonna really LOVE me!

I'd love that gun to take a turkey or deer some day. Let me know it it does.

Well. A wrap here for today. No turkey but a very happy new turkey hunter. Got an 80 yr old uncle turned for worst at Porter Mem Hosp. Heading there with family. Been a crazy weekend for me with maybe 2 hours total sleep. Kind of fried. Half giddy and loopy. But happy.
