About to head to the woods here in Metamora. Supposed to be a nice day at least. For some reason, I have zero confidence in getting ant turkey action. We shall see.

Hearing a few gobbles but none very close so far. Got at least 3 birds roosted off this property starting to sound off.

Today is my first morning hunt this season. Went out wednesday evening and had six deer walk by but that was it. This morning I have been hearing gobbles all over but none in my area.

Getting ready to take my brother in law out. Tried to convince him that we should be set up before first light and he refused citing "you can hunt turkeys anytime". Which is true I suppose. And after all, it's his hunt, not mine.

Setup in the same spot as last night. Had a bird 75 yards away gobbling like a mad man. Close enough I watched him shake and strut on the limb. Gobbled over an hour. Flew down and shut up. Circled me never getting closer than 60 yards. Pretty sure it was yesterday's bird.

Yet another day in the woods. Been every day since youth. Got my daughter today and tomorrow. Hopefully she gets one then I can start my season. Couple on the roost this morning than nothing after fly down. Trying sitting over a well used dust bowl. We shall see.

There is a skunk in the field. Bad omen? Probably not and I'm sure he's looking for a nest to steal some eggs.

There is a skunk in the field. Bad omen? Go out there and run him off your field. It might be a bad deal. Not a bad omen then. Lol.

He hung up at about 65 yards...and I left my skunk call in the truck.

Might go for broke and creep to the back and see if I can get one to talk. Nothing to lose. Getting bored.

Well I walked about a half mile back to near the west property line. Called occasionally. Could not strike one up. I'm going to sit back here for a while. It's just about the turkiest looking spot on God's green earth, so the change of scenery has my head back in the game.

A good morning at my lease in Lawrence county. Had my decoys to the west of me. As I was calling I started hearing gobblers to the north. I moved to a set up facing in that direction and continued calling. (no decoys) Three toms came in to around 100 yards. Didn't see any hens with them. Kept calling and they kept responding. After 15 minutes or so they started moving away. I don't think they busted me since I was in a thicket watching them through the thicket. Nonetheless they left. So, for tomorrow, I have a plan and idea of where they are roosting.

At least I "know" there are turkeys on my lease. Forgot to mention that today was my first time hunting the property.

Got to my property in Dearborn Co. way late. Hurried up to my best deer hunting spot where I can see down the old road bed in both directions. Lots of gobbling all around this morning. Sounds like several tons on my neighbors place and a bunch further off. Hoping hens will go to nests early and toms will start roaming. Liking all the gobbling...hopefully they'll keep talking. . Always good to know they are there.
