Deer hunting near Austin. Duck hunters sounded off early. Sounded like a war zone first half hour. I guess I should have been in a duck blind.

My buck season Is done, accidentally shot a spike tonight thinking it was a doe, was getting dark and was with another little buck, I looked before I shot and just didn't see antlers. Oh well guess there's next year This would bum me a little. When I shot my buck, I had decided that it was going down no matter if was the little ugly buck that I'd been seeing in the summer. I was tired of not seeing anything, but it was still Oct. LOL I'll say it again; I'm impressed with deer hunters. I sure hope you get a wall-hanger next year.

My buck season Is done, accidentally shot a spike tonight thinking it was a doe, was getting dark and was with another little buck, I looked before I shot and just didn't see antlers. Oh well guess there's next year I've been trying to kill one last doe for the year for what seems like ages now, but all I'm seeing are little bucks. Lots of times in the last couple of weeks I've thought I had it in the bag, only to look very closely and see spikes. In fact, I had one come in two evenings ago that had tiny spikes, and I mean tiny. Both were under 3" and it was probably a legal antlerless, even though it was 1 1/2 years old buck, but I didn't shoot. I got quite a few does on trail camera pre-season, but certainly can't find them now. I spread my doe kills over numerous properties, and had one property that I felt could lose a doe and not hurt anything. Then I found out that someone got permission to hunt there and shot a small 8-pointer and two does on opening morning of firearms season from a ladder stand not 200 yards from my back door, so I didn't even bother.

It was a perfect morning in the stand! I was hoping for a buck, but got a doe! So I was sitting in my stand an around 7:40am a four point buck came threw. I decided as late in the year it was an not seeing anything bigger i was gonna take him. I had seen him before but passed both times once in archery an once in firearm. The deer stand I was sitting in must have been made for a tiny person, the rail sits extremely low every time want to shoot a deer if u wanna use it you have to kneel. So I knelt He was coming from the right of me(harder shot since I shoot right shoulder.) heading to a short creek with ALOT of cover probably was doing there to bed. By the time I scoped up he had made it there. So I tried Grunting. Didn't phase him. Watched him work his way threw the cover an headed to my father in law stand, about then he spooked I thought my father an law was gonna shoot him.(come to find out after the hunt he never seen the buck, but heard him) So now I am standing with my gun rested up against the tree looking down the scope, he was heading for a trail that was free from cover. He stopped Right before it an went a different direction. I stood there for about 10-15 minutes looking for him.(there's a 20 acre pond behind me, there is a DEEP bank to it they like to travel up an down that). Standing there i decided to try my doe can..... Nothing.... My calves were starting to get sore I decided to sit. Not more then 20 seconds later a I seen a doe in the corn! (Uncut blown over half corn, from the strong winds we had two weeks ago) I thought it was a yearling. I had hunted since the beginning of archery, seen deer an passed them up. I watch the doe for about 2-3 minutes feeding on the corn about 40 yards away, before I decided it was time to collect some meat! I slowly picked up my CVA optima muzzleloader, scoped in on it at the time it was standing straight at me. I rested my elbow this time on the rail, I must of made some noise doing the doe stopped an sniffed an look right at me after not smelling anything in came in closer! it turned perfect sideways on me, now it about 30 yards away on my turf!! (corn was different property)(ill upload a pic below from archery season) It looked dead at me again it knew I was there now. Pulled back the hammer! CLICK! BOOOOOOOMM!!!! Poof of white smoke!!!! clears!!!! Dropped in its tracks! First time ever!! I was excited about that!! It was still alive I had to get down a reload an put a good shot in her. I was little upset by that. Had an awesome hunt this morning!!!!!
