Well I just saw a huge Pileated Woodpecker! Hopefully if he's crazy enough to be out in this wind then so will the deer!

Well we're down to the last hour boys and girls! Saw the first deer of the afternoon an hour ago. Too far to shoot in this wind though. Good luck!

Saw this guy while doing some stalking tonight. First snake I've ever seen during gun season. Turned out to be a good night. I dropped one with my 44 mag. revolver.

Sit in stand all day, activity really heated up at 11am, saw 5 bucks, 4 does, no size going to try again, unless it's pouring.

I have no clue. I'm not sure what kind of snake it is. I never heard of any pocket of poisonous snake in Dearborn County. I'm not far from there at all though.

Had 2 does blow by me about the speed of light at 3:30. Was waiting for the buck behind them.....never saw anything. Don't know what had them running.

I am jealous...opening day and I was at work this morning and now in the hospital with the wife after she had a car wreck on the interstate earlier today. My season is starting out as I suspected it would...disaster before it starts!! LOL

This S or SE wind is killing me, along with the speeds it's hitting. 9 hours total in the stand yesterday and not a single flag even. Four guys in the woods (16 acres!) that are distant relatives of the owner and have been there a few years now. "Supreme deer hunters" that obviously just don't get it. Came in from down wind, sat all four spread out on down wind side of the bedding area, shot 3 times ( at the FAR west end) at something (one shot YEP, two shots MAYBE.....three shots..PROBABLY NOT) then spent another hour and a half walking all over. Going this AM but not there. A low area in a huge picked corn field has some weeds standing 80 - 100 yards N of an E-W creek bed with a big bedroom on the other side. (and a guy hunting the SOUTH side of that, again upwind). I'll feel like a broken thumb sticking out but if one is running (they do run this field back and forth chasing does) I may get lucky. Dark weeds, dark clothes, darkened face......and my old orange hat, Ill be visible and cussed at by two hunters south of the ditch, one way East but you cannot see this spot from ANY road even though it's only 300 yards back and NO trees. Sometimes, one has to try to depend on lady luck but I'll PROBABLY have my main woods to myself during the week. Better than sitting home aggravated!! God Bless
