In the stand, doe decoy out and sprayed with her favorite perfume( golden estrus) and three scent wicks. I added a skinned out doe tail to my decoy and hung a scent wick under that. Tail looks great swaying in the wind! Good luck everyone!

I just have a few more days to hunt and I'm torn at what that might be. I'm off work now for the rest of the year, but have the implant put in next Wed. No hunting for 30 days after. I feel partially pulled to get a doe with a firearm, but part wants to duck hunt ...decisions decisions decisions

Back on in the stand. These winds are getting annoying! This is my last chance today to get Mr. Buck with a stick and string before the boom sticks start sounding off! Going to try to hunt all day. Best of luck to you all and God bless! Truly thankful to be alive and partaking in the greatest sport I know!

Just got busted by a down wind doe at 100 yards. I was seated motionless when she appeared and threw her head up. She had to of winded me. I washed my clothes with scent eliminating wash. Store them in scent free container and spray down before every hunt. I don't get it. Not knowing what to do now and not wanting to get down I went ahead and hung two scent wicks in my tree next to me. Ugh!

If anything like in my area, there is no forecasting which way a buck will come since most likely chasing or following so don't let the wind depress you. When hot on a doe I've seen way too many flat ignore me even knowing I am there, even on the ground this time of year. Others swear by the scent reducing stuff and methods but down wind is down wind. Man cannot "beat" a deer's nose yet there have been times I've had such straight downwind and close that never spooked. It happens, scent proofing or not, IMHO. To me its just less of my money they get but that's just for me. Others use what they have faith in and I will always support that. Wind is gonna stay awhile by forecasts for the next 10 days here, and in the "wrong" direction for my stands but I'll still go and still expect shots simply because OF the above. They just come from the dangest directions for me this time of year. My two heaviest bucks came from a picked corn field that borders a high way and there isn't cover in that direction for 2 miles so where they came from is just a guess. Hang in there, Buddy and I agree, just being out there is the main draw of it all but I do know how frustrating it gets since this has been the poorest year (so far) I can recall. It just makes it all that much sweeter when it DOES all come together. God Bless

Sometimes I think we make the mistake of ascribing the whitetail species with an identical set of physical attributes. Imagine trying to do that with the human species...you can't! The fact is, like humans, every deer has a unique set of physical traits. Some deer, doubtless, have inferior olfactory capabilities to others. Same goes for vision and hearing. Some deer are naturally more wary than others too. I think we lose track of this concept sometimes when we try to figure out what went wrong or what went right with particular scenarios afield. Fact is, some deer are capable of "busting" us on a regular basis while some aren't as equipped to do so. When you stop to factor that into the equation, it can add exponentially to the frustration of trying to explain our successes or failures as hunters.

NOT ALL DEER do ANYTHING the same way due to the exact same exterior factor even if all capabilities WERE (we have no clue) the same. I've seen some NICE bucks walk right by my truck out in the field and have had even small bucks panic and take off full bore seeing my truck out there even if 200 yards away from it. Does this sound like a LOT of luck is involved? YEP! and is true regardless of what the article writers will have you believe that "they know". Not only humans are "individuals" but at least WE sometimes, kinda, maybe react the same way most the time...deer do not from what I've seen in countless observations. What makes one panic will be an "eh...so what" to the next OR maybe even THAT deer the next week. Rotten little varmints anyway LOL. God Bless and safe hunting. Out this PM and tomorrow helping early archery fade into another one down the tubes but.....DEER STILL GET SHOT after gun season by bowhunters. Even by old senile ones like me!

I have been at it all day and nothing but the two does from this morning. Hunting inside some woods but close enough to glass a couple different fields. Four turkeys and that's it. Hope that changes as the sun gets closer to the horizon. All this time in the woods today really has me missing my dad. I can still picture him slowly walking (terrified he would break a sweat) to his stand. I will count myself lucky if I ever get that same knack for whitetail as he did. Good luck to all!!!

At 1:40 I decided to feed the horses before I headed to woods. Seen the horses was watching something behind the pasture. Then a seen a big doe with a hugh buck following her. Then a 6 or small 8. Went ahead and did my feeding and in the course of 45 minutes 2 more bucks trailed her across field. So a total of 4 bucks following her. I couldn't believe it. Have never seen that before. All out in the open by a grass water way. I would say she was the hottest girl in town this evening. Lol

Trying to seal the deal this morning. Have some mice in my tree that scared the crap out of me when it was still dark. Also thought I had a deer coming in but turned out to be 3 raccoons. Critters are moving though so hoping for the big guy. Third time in this stand this season last sit saw a nice buck but he wouldn't cross the creek for a shot
