THE CALL SAID CORN HAD BEEN PLACED NEAR A HUNTING AREA ALONG THE BANKS OF A WATERSHED LAKE ADJACENT TO FINLEY FIREHOUSE ROAD. DURING A 3 HOUR SURVEILLANCE THE THREE WERE OBSERVED ILLEGALLY BAITING THE WATERFOWL AND ILLEGALLY TAKING 2 WOOD DUCKS DURING CLOSED SEASON. THE THREE WERE ARRESTED AND CHARGED WHILE INDIANA CONSERVATION OFFICERS ENCOURAGE SPORTSMAN AND OUTDOOR ENTHUSIAST TO REPORT ACTS OF POSSIBLE POACHING USING A HOT LINE, WHERE THE TIP SATURDAY WAS REPORTED AT 1 800 TIP IDNR.

Be carefull assuming anything. I was suprised how many other guys with my name are out there, not a common name either. One lived in the same county for a while and has been in jail and other various problems that I was pulled into because we share a name. It sucks when you get pulled into something for no reason, believe me.

Well I hate to inform you all but it was me. As with many stories told by the press it was told incorrectly. We weren't arrested and we were charged we hunting on baited property. Please don't think that this was done on purpose. We were actually hunting 205 yards away on a point far away from the corn.
The two wood ducks were my fault. This is my second year waterfowling and after two teal had buzzed one side of the boat I shot at what I thought was two teal and after retrieving I discovered they were wood duck. I put them aside and we didn't shoot anymore ducks b/c I realized I was incapable of properly identifying.
The COs even acknowledged that they believed it was an accident but still had to write me up. They didn't take anything from us.
We broke the rules whether intentional or not and we will pay a fine for that. I just ask that before you believe something you read find out the facts first. I've heard that I was arrested and found hunting over the corn. This just isn't true.
I'm sure ppl will say what they want but anyone that knows me knows that this wasn't intentional.

Unless some of you are incapable of making a mistake at least give me the benefit of the doubt.

Your explanation is good enough for me. If what your saying is true then I hope they go easy on you.

Fair enough.
I just can't figure out why Tex Murphy would be dumping corn in a pond when there is an ethanol plant being built in Mt. Vernon.
I hope they go easy on you too.

if you are offered this KEEP YOU NOSE CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not even a parking ticket
i think it lines up to a class b or c misdemeanor
i shot an immature hen mallard during teal season a couple of years ago
mistakes happen
then waste everything you can in oct...trust me pulling the trigger never felt SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo good

I really appreciate that. I was told to join this forum from someone saying you all were a good crew and you all have shown that. I really do feel like a MORON for mis-IDing and the whole thing but from what I hear most duck hunters have had an OOPs. My nose will be squeaky clean from now on.

You aren't the first guy to ever shoot a wood duck in teal season and you won't be the last. I've never done it myself or had any issues like that in the field but things happen and you learn from your mistakes.

I'm glad you manned up and told your story. Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you handle yourself that makes up for them. I hope everything works out in your favor. Thanks for coming clean.

You are definetly correct. I have decided that until I can get to a point that i can ID on the fly everytime that I will not even raise the gun. I went out the other day and just watched the birds and tried to ID correctly. Just me my calls and my binoculars.

Good idea. You can't totally learn to ID ducks from books and websites. You have to get out there and see what they really look like. Sounds like you made an honest mistake.

Lesson learned, Forget about it and look forward to Oct. I understand completely how you could do this. I'm color blind so, I dont shoot anything onless everthing is in.
