Look out world! Dumb guy with a smart phone! Is there any beneficial apps for hunting out there? I have the "AccuWeather" app and that's about it.

I'd recommend the Weather Underground application.
Before I list all of my other suggestions, iPhone or Android?

Seems that the sales of GPS units are dropping because many outdoors enthusiasts are now using their phone app's instead of carrying the handhelds.
I just replaced my dead Magellan with a new basic Garmin a couple days ago. I was going to upgrade to little better mapping unit, but after reading up about it on the 'net, decided to just get the basic one and look into going with the app when I eventually join the crowd and get a smart phone, too.

Unfortunately, my iphone doesn't get a signal everywhere I hunt therefore, still lugging around a Garmin etrex.

Guess its time for me to upgrade my app. I found at least 2 GPS: one for bikers and one for skiers, that don't need a phone or wifi signal to work. I am beginning to wonder if my inability to track with my iphone app was because of the tree canopy. I didn't notice Garmin dropping signal.

Great apps guys. Cant find the Whitetail Freaks one though. Does anyone here go to the "pro hunters journal"? I used that a lot last year on the computer. Seemed easy enough to log and document hunts.

I just checked the App Store. Whitetail Freaks Property Manager is still there under iPhone apps. It allows you to outline your property lines on the arial photos and drop pins for tree stand markers and such. It also tells you how much acreage is in your defined property lines.

It also tells you how much acreage is in your defined property lines. -Plus you can share your property with a friend if they have the app. So if you hunt together, you just send him the ID, then you can tell him to go to "Tree Stand 1" or whatever, and the app will give him solid directions to that stand, plus have an arial view of where he's at. Nice GPS / Compass system.

In addition to the apps listed above, I use:
iSolunar Rut Reporters MotionX-GPS
MotionX-GPS is my favorite by far, it does everything whitetail freaks does and more. I do think it takes time to get used to it, but once you do it is game on.

I have a droid phone so maybe that's the problem (Casio Commando). I was able to get photo bucket downloaded. I tried to create a post on the forum but it would not let me add an attachment. Also had a real hard time logging in.

Hey MichaelAdkins,
I got the MotionX app on your recommendation and it looks cool. One thing I'm not seeing on it that I do with Whitetail Freaks Property Manager is how to drop pins to define a property line. On the WT Freaks app, it shades in the property after you define it and tells how much acreage is there. Then you can drop pins for tree stands and give them names. Am I just missing this feature?
I love how you can save your track as you move around a property. That would be extremely useful in tracking a deer you've shot, I would imagine!
