I not aware of ANY county in Illinois that sells out on the first draw, meaning that any resident that applies, gets his or hers tag that they want. Since the NR archery draw was expanded to 25,000 tags, the sell out occurs very late into Nov. in most counties and lately not at all with archery tags.

So, with all that good hunting In Illinois it is "possible" for a resident to not get a deer tag because they are sold out?
I know your saying that they have not sold out in a while.......but there is a possibility it can happen ?

No, It's not possible. The first draw is residents only, they can also apply in the 2nd. and 3rd. Then buy from a gender any that are left over. Short of the DNR not printing any tags for a county, its not possible that a resident would be shut out

Tag arrived today...
I understand that they haven't sold half of their allotment of 25,000
So, anyone that wants to go archery hunting in Illinois can get them over the counter..

You know what else gets old, you guys admitting that Illinois has a great thing going, but refusing to accept any changes that might bring Indiana towards that level. Mind boggling really. I vote we raise our out of state tags to that price. It's ridiculus that we are supposed to keep our NR tags cheap while these other states are making people pay to play.

Whatever a state charges us we should charge their hunters the same to hunt Indiana. deer for deer and turkey for turkey I can hunt Kentucky cheaper than a Kentuckian can hunt Indiana.

Too bad we can't go elk for a elk or antelope for a antelope here in Indiana! I do think we need to at least consider what other states are charging us to hunt there. I've surfed the other DNR sites and some the prices are so high I'll be saving forever to hunt anything other than whitetail here in Indiana.

The DNR was working on the pricing of future tags with proposal #1. If it would have passed you would have seen a out of state tag increase to Ill and Iowa prices. Trophy hunting equals trophy hunting tag prices for NR's. Now you get the picture of what Prop #1 was really about. h.h.

The DNR told me that the licensing bundling and structure would be revealed AFTER the present proposal was accepted and finalized.Trophy hunting equals trophy hunting tag prices for NR's. Now you get the picture of what Prop #1 was really about.

Illinois is the best there is, IMO Really? With how many weapons (management tools) do they have/need? That, and they have an awfully short firearm season don't they? Our Dnr seems to be heading in the opposite direct, suppose Illinois hasn't heard of "Modern Deer Management"

Lug,
Illinois has a different management strategy than does Indiana. Both work, just different. Illinios politics doesn't allow for longer gun use and they are lucky to get what they have.

I went to college in Illinois. I couldn't have a firearm on campus, and I was having a hard time getting a FOID card anyways. I was forced to only bow hunt, which was fine with me. I was an agriculture student, and a lot of the local farmers kids went to the same school. It opened up a TON of available land to hunt. However I still spent more time driving back to IN on the weekends to hunt. I simply preferred Indiana hunting. I'm not a trophy hunter by any means. I hunt for the meat and for the experience in the timber. I saw a lot of big deer in IL, but IN just seemed better. I don't know why, and maybe it was just cause IN was home. I may go back to one of my old spots with a NR license this fall. Thanks for posting this thread. Brought back some good memories.
