I'm still using my trusty 870 SP that I bought 20 years ago when dip camo was the rage. She sports a 26" barrel that I had back bored and the forcing cone lengthened the day I got her. I shoot a Hastings 665 choke with 3" Active #5 or #6. I'll put 13 to 20 pellets in the kill at 45 yrds all day long. Longest shot taken was at 52 yards.
The active shells (if anyone remembers) were all plastic (red w/ no brass bottom). At the time were the only shells you could get in 2oz @ 3". In 89' they sold for $5 in a box of 25. I bought 2 boxes and at some point over the years the company went out of business and I have not been able to find anymore. Needless to say taking turkeys over the last 20 years has me down to 4 shells left. I need to try some of the new shells on the market and maybe experiment with some chokes - I feel the winds of change coming ;D

I have upgraded: I am going out Sat and will try for better patterns with a polished barrel. I am also going to pattern HEVI 13 #7's. Hopeful of 200+ in a 10" circle at 40 yds!

If I don't use my Athens or recurve this year I'll be using my old trusty Mossberg 835 walmart turkey special and 3" Winchester Xtended range #5's. Those things sure do well!
