According to your link, the 3", 2.25oz shells are $4.35 a piece. Are yours custom loaded, or do you buy them somewhere else. I haven't been able to go turkey hunting the last few years do to employment issues, but when I did, shot Federal Flight control shells. I got decent patterns, but nothing like Woodmaster's! If I ever get to go again, I'll have to try some of thse shells!

Encore 12 factory choke and Good ole cheapo Winchester #5s!
kills em dead out past 40 with no problem.
I really like that set up of yours woody! Good lookin gun.

12 bore black powder muzzleloader with no choke. Loaded with 100 grains of 2f Goex and 1 3/4 oz of #6's, it is as sure to kill a tom within 20 yards as it is of turning your shoulder all sorts of interesting colors (it only weighs 5 1/2# with a steel buttplate). Fun, fun!

WOW! That is an awesome 35 yard pattern! Toatally agree Decatur. I'm gonna have to take a closer look at my setup. I checked my patterns from the past few years and I'll do 10-15 pellets to the vital area at 35 yards. That's probably the best pattern I've ever seen Woody! |

The last few years I have been using my Encore with a 12 gauge blackpowder turkey barrel with a H S Undertaker choke. I also have a regular turkey barrel for it but the blackpowder is more fun and very deadly. I use 90 gr. of T7 with a 2 oz. duplex load of #5 & #6 magnum shot and a TC shot cup. Pretty cool! I am, due to my location, a very inexperienced turkey hunter, and have always heard, that too tight a pattern is a bad thing. That's why I asked that question.

I think you caught him with the edge of the pattern or it would have took his head off. Yes, the Simmons Pro-Diamond really helps. |

I stick to my old 870 Express with the Remington .665 turkey choke throwing 3" #5 Remington nitro turkey shells and a regular bead sight. Not the tightest pattern or the longest range, but it's killed consistently out to 40 yds. I haven't been able to justify dropping a big wad of money on a gun dedicated to turkey hunting that will only buy me another 10 or so yards of range.

I have a Mossberg 535 thole with a SSX (strut stopper extreme) in a 660. I shot #5 3" last year and got a better pattern at 40 than with the 3.5" federal's I shoot.
