Hey whitetailchaser22! Welcome to the forum! My experience with 22's says to experiment with as many different ammunition as possible to find what YOUR rifle likes. That being said, I would stay away from any of the Remington "bulk" ammunition like "Golden Bullets"....they are pure junk and dirty shooting as well. As far as bulk ammo goes, you might want to try Federal as a lot of guys report good results with it for a cheap ammo....I am generally satisfied with it in some of my 22's. if you REALLY want to find accuracy in your rifle, I suggest trying some of the standard velocity stuff (~1200 f.p.s.) and even subsonic loads (<1100 f.p.s.). CCI makes good fodder.
BTW, congrats on your new Savage. Savage rimfires have a well deserved reputation of great accuracy. Among the Savages I have owned, I found them to shoot straight....VERY straight. Does yours have the Accu-Trigger? If so, you will like it. Best of luck. Hoosier.

another cheaper ammo that shoots great is the AMERICAN EAGLE .22lr hollow points, this is what i use for squirrel hunting, and if i hold it still on a bench rest ,i get touching one hole groups, ,i used to buy a brick for ten dollars ,now i heard its' thirty dollars a brick, now its'not a cheap ammo, but its shoots well for me..just my two cents....turkey scout and welcome (whitetailchaser22)to a great hunting site and more!!!

My Savage Mark II likes just about any ammo but CCI mini mags shoot real good followed by Winchester Power Points or Winchester Dynapoint. h.h.

Can't go wrong with Eley, but it's not cheap either. I've had good luck with CCI Blazers in my Marlins- haven't had a Savage in my hands in a long time...

BTW, so nobody is confused, I think we are talking about a Savage MARK II (NOT a Mach 2...as in a 17 caliber rimfire).
Let us know what she likes whitetailchaser'!!!!

Last weekend we were plinking some stuff with a single shot remington .22 with fixed sights. At about 25 yards the competition between us was to shoot a piece of corn off the top of a tack without touching the tack. We all did it at least half the time or better. This was with the cheapest ammo we could find, it was 2$ for 50. So if your just looking for somthing to shoot some shots with and not kill game, I wouldnt waste any money. It should also be noted we were using two different types of ammo and they both hit in the same spot. I think most .22 LR ammo is created equal when it comes to target practice.

I know, ive never taken a squirrel with a .22. Can't wait! Neither have I, I always used the ol .12 guage. But after limiting out every trip for the past several seasons, I descided it would be a bit more fun to take up the .22 challenge.
