Why not change the system? The change to tele-check would give me the opportunity to hunt until dark during the early part of the season, without the possibility of a spoiled and wasted deer. As of right now, where I hunt I would have to walk out of the woods at least an hour before dark.

Tele-check's implementation won't affect me, because my check in station is my buddy's sporting goods store which I will be taking my deer to regardless, and he will open to check a deer in for me. However, tele-check has been used with satisfactory results in othere states, so there is no reason not to think it wouldn't work here. Not all change is something to be feared!

Tele check makes sense....currently the check in stations are not required look at the animal anyway. I live about a mile from my check in station and yesterday I didn't want to mess with loading my doe back up in that cold so I just took my tag down there and checked it in and the deer never left my garage. Only a mile? You are lucky. If I get my Late UDZ, have to drive to Portage or LaPorte... 15+ mi each way - totally out of the way. That's not an insignificant amount of gasoline or time...

Is there ANYTHING that the KDF&WR can do right in the eyes of Jim Strader? The man's show thrives on stirring up controversy. People can cheat no matter what the check in is.. Thats because controversy sells readership/viewership/listenership........ The more of those things he has the more he can charge his sponsors for the commercials.........AND THAT MEANS HE MAKES MORE MONEY!

Its been like this forever its not that big of a deal to take it to a check station thats all part of it. Sure if we go to telecheck fine. But i dont see the problem with it now.

I shot a deer on a weekend this year and no check stations that I could find were open within 20 miles. It was a pain. I also don't like the hot weather business of having to get four or five bags of ice at the Circle K!
I do wonder how biologists can get solid data on deer without a reliable way to check a lot of bodies over the whole state. A lot of processors wouldn't want the hassle of deer inspectors hanging around. The information hunters provide is not always reliable. ( for instance the obviously four or five year old deer we see people report as being 2.5 years because the antlers aren't very big)

i'm sure most deer hunters don't live real close to a check station and most deer processors are not a check station!.......... d.n.r. its' time to let our hoosier hunters- to have tele-checking for deer, if the shoe was on the other foot ,the d.n.r. would have done this years ago, we are talking money here too, it cost us sportmans a lot of money every year, i'm sure gov.mitch cares about states money, but does he care about us sportman and sports-women spending money foolishly??!!!! WE NEED TELE-CHECKING.................turkey scout

On the flip side of hanging out at the check-in, you won't have to worry about your nice buck being "found out" and having new friends across the property lines later. Bring it on, I haven't done the check-in hang out in years, anyway.

Actually, rarely do I even take the deer to the check in site. Nobody at a check in site has ever demanded they see my deer. The current system relies on honesty and integrity on the part of the hunter. Tele check would convienence everyone and streamline the process.

Of the three Check in stations/Processors that live in my area, they can't wait for tele-check.

I can live with it either way, it's not that big of deal to me.
The one benefit I do see is the instant data that will be created with tele check.
I don't see much difference....hand written transport tags, tele check........it don't matter. Honest folks will be honest and those that are not......WON'T!

I'm in favor of it. Can't wait. When I worked at a check station it took away time from paying customers while you checked deer in for free. Although getting to see the "big bucks" was a bonus, it was just a big hassle.

I never said i was against it just dont see the big deal about check stations. Every post i see is guys whining about have to check the deer in. You all know thats part of it when you kill it just quit complaining about it and hunt. Seems like nowadays everyone wants to take the lazy way out.

911,
The easy way out for me would be just to go home and process the deer myself. I only live about 2 minutes from where I hunt. I have to drive the six miles to town to check one, then 6 back to hang it. If I wanted the easy way I'd just take care of it. Noone would know any different except me and my kids that I am trying to teach the value of the law. I don't mind the way it is, but shut up and quit whining and just hunt is pretty harsh for someone that is not against it.
