Has anyone seen or heard about the new fad with using japanese mini trucks shipped to the USA as hunting/fishing vehicles. They put a vinyl called camoclad on them to make them camoflauged. They are also putting lift kits and carlisle all trail tires to make them handle better in the woods. I was curious if anyone had this new toy because my brother and I were looking at maybe purchasing one for the farm.

From what I've heard you can get into them for around $3k (they are used), and many of them are 4wd and diesel. Supposed to get great mileage and be able to do 50+ mph if you remove the 5th gear lock-out from the transmission, IIRC.
For what you are talking about using it for, I wouldn't waste the money on a camoclad job, just buy $10 worth of Krylon and do it yourself.
If you are in the west-central part of the state, PM me and I'll see if I can dig up the number for a guy that was supposed to be able to get them.

I have also been looking into these. Really isn't a bad deal. I saw one driving down highway 54 two weekends ago and I told my wife that is what I wanted to get and she just laughed at me : )

One thing about them is you can't license them to run on the road. Anyway unless something has changed in the last year. I have a buddy that has one, he had to put a smv sign on it and keep it under 25 mph when on the road.

Different makes of them but this is the first site that popped up with a Google search: www.japaneseminitrucks.com/Depending on what county you live in they may be able to be driven on the road at higher speeds- in Putnam County ATV's can be run on the road providing they meet certain criteria (insurance, etc.). I know Parke County allows them as well but there are hoops to jump through there too.

I cant see buying something that big and not be able to drive it on the road.If it gets stuck it will require alot more effort to get it unstuck.where do you get parts or service. Its size makes almost as big as a regular truck and its real cramped inside when yor dressed for cold weather.I own a kawasaki mule, slow but perfect for two people and gear.

The mule doesn't have a enclosed cab. You also couldn't take your mule on the road.

A Mule should be able to legally go anywhere those mini-trucks can legally go. As Schall53 stated, last I heard they could not be liscenced to run on state highways (just like ATVs). In fact, a newspaper article reported where a municipality was using one for their parking meter attendant and the attendant received a ticket from a state trooper because they were not allowed on the road.

I stoppped and looked at one of these the other day. They are neat little trucks, but I would just rather geta Rhino, Mule, or just a 4 wheeler to get the job done. The one I looked at the guy was asking $4,900 for it. Would be nice to have the heated cab on those cold winter days.

I stopped a while back and sat in one. I am 6'5" and just about could not get in. Once I was in I could not move my legs to touch the peddles. You would probably have to be 5'10" and under. They are neat little trucks.

Would it be possible to get a sticker to be able to drive it on county roads like you can for quads and the Utv's? I know a couple of farmers around here run a mule and a Kabota around.

Good question Indianahick. I sure don't see why not. Ask the COs maybe?

That would be up to the individual county.
Putnam County allows ATV's to be run on the road, but they must be insured for a fairly high amount. I've been told that it costs almost as much to insure an ATV to the county requirements as it does to insure a regular car....
