I have been following this pending legislation very closely as well with it's failure to be heard last year. The last update that I am aware of is that HB1175 passed the House and was sent to the Senate on January 26,2010. in.gov/portal/news_events/50466.htmLast year, a very similar version was presented as HB1043, but died before getting heard. I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I have owned a mini truck now for two years. I went through the process of submitting an affidavit for title in cooperation with my county BMV and local Sheriffs Department. My truck was titled and registered here in Indiana for on road use within 30 days of ownership. Many I have talked to and heard of on other forums were not so fortunate. Being that Indiana has no formal legislation regarding the use of mini trucks for road use, the decision is left up to the each individual BMV for consideration as well as with the main BMV in Indianapolis to approve it once all paperwork has been submitted. Once authorized and issued a MVIN # for my mini truck, I had some MVIN number plates made up and permanently attached them to my vehicle. After that was complete, I continued with the licensing and registration process no different than you would a home built trailer, kit car, dune buggy/sand rail, etc. State Farm Insurance had no problems with offering me full coverage on my little gas sipper either.

Thanks guys! I thought I would post up a picture of my truck since some people don't know what a Japanese Mini Truck really is, but might be afraid to ask. This truck is a blast to drive around. I use it mainly for hauling firewood, but if I'm just short hopping around locally in the county, I'll just leave my Silverado in the garage and take my mini truck. It gets twice the gas mileage, but just stopping in the gas station to fill up causes quite the stir and barrage of questions. The questions that some people ask are quite entertaining, but I enjoy the interaction and the opportunity to put the information out there for people who are interested. ;D I have driven it to Indianapolis to work on a few occasions. It will run 70 mph on the high end, but comfortably at 55.

I live in Martinsville and just got a mini truck, how did you title your truck to get plate on it. What did you tell them at the BMV?
Thanks Buck1187
