It cracks me up when people naively ask "why don't you just buy some land?" Not everyone CAN buy land. I'm sure we would all love to be landowners, but it just doesn't work that way! As if everyone of us hasn't dreamt about, and tried to figure a way we could buy land! If only! Half of the main place that I hunt just got auctioned off. 40 acres went for 380,000. What made it worth 9500 an acre? Curious minds are wondering!

This place is in West Lafayette not from from Purdue. I have noticed there is a lot more money around this area than other areas I have lived in this State. A friend of mine who went to the auction and has been watching real estate thought they actually got a good price for what building lots have been going for around here.

There is a ton of great hunting ground in Southern Indiana for $3000 an acre or less depending on size. Deals out there, right now. Just have to find people that NEED the money.

Sorry, but I don't buy that $6500 per acre figure as an average price for farm ground anywhere in Indiana. Maybe farm ground that has potential for commercial development, but not average farm ground. With the recent $5 per bushel corn, it's getting a little crazy, and some of the recent sales of prime, flat, good soil, farm ground have been awfully high in the $5-6000 range, but that is the exception, not the rule. Furthermore, for hunting it is better to buy rough ground, swamp, thickets, etc. which isn't the most desireable farm ground. Get out in the rural areas where the best hunting is anyway, and you can find some deals.

You must not have ever been up this way its all flat good farm ground with wood lots here and there with some creeks and ditchs not at all like down south of Indy were the hills start. If you go north of Fort Wayne almost to MI you will start to get some ground like your talking but not much and if you go north and east were IN OH and MI meet by the toll road it starts getting that way a bit again or drive over by markel. The guys and myself that are trying to buy some ground together dont want to drive 2 to 3 hours to hunt not even talking about the 4 bucks a gallon now to get there.

Just 2 years ago I found 200 acres for $60,000 on the Vermillion/Parke County line. Those who don't know the co. line is the Wabash River, but it would have made a great duck hunting hole, people ride 4 wheelers all year back there as long as it ain't under water. Seen some dandy deer wondering through it as well. I was very tempted but was in the process of buying a place to live...dang it!

As everyone has said, it will only get more expensive. I am hoping to buy another 15 acres before the neighbor next to our land sells the property and moves away.

No it doesn't--what it means is that it is not in your immediate "comfort zone" to talk frequently to people you don't know as an introvert, with all selfishness aside. (You are not "talk frequently to people you don't know"-handed. ) I actually have a friend who is an ISTJ, is working on a doctorate in clinical psychology, and has to develop rapport with people she doesn't know all the time as a part of her job. I am an ISFJ and have to do the same thing (but chances are I would probably naturally enjoy it more).
