Hello, My name is Steve and I'm a huntaholic, I love primitive weapons ,shoot recurves and muzzleloaders,I have a little place,5 acres with a couple ponds and a little archery course with 17 targets that I shoot most every day, love bowfishing and deer hunting, pheasents and rabbits, squirrels too,but I'm in need of a hunting buddy, see my old hunting buddy,my best friend and son Dustin was killed back in April, near Alexandria In. 3 weeks after coming home from Iraq,he was 23. So, if anyone around me likes to fling a few arrows or do a little hunting, get in touch with me,we'll figure it out. I look forward to being a part of this site and meeting all of you,i've been hunting now for 37 years, and hope that i can be of some use on here, and maybe learn a few things too, THANKS WOODY for inviting me! ps. NEVER been turkey hunting, want to go!

Steve-- When I read your post on Welcome mat I instantly knew who you were, and about your son Dustin. I'm a photographer at WTHR, and I recalled the story of the soldier who lost his life in an auto accident. Our station covered the tragic auto accident and talked to you. I remember seeing the story in our newsroom, and everyone here at Ch. 13 could truly feel your pain in the piece that Linsey Davis produced. I just went back into our archives and watched the story again, and I'm very sorry for the loss of your son.
A lot of great guys are on this site....so welcome aboard.

Thanks bsutravis, It was a very bad week,we lost my mother-in-law just an hour before Dustin, and at the time of my interview, hadn't had any sleep in 3 days, and it was made less than a minute after i saw Dustin for the first time,I looked bad!! Is there any way you could get me a copy of the news stories pertaining to the accident and interview? I'm putting together a memorial to my son to be passed down through our family,I want him to be remembered as the great person he was,and also for his contribution to our freedom, and not forgotten. and I think these stories should be added so our future generations can see what happened to our family Hero.I also started something called "Dustin's Memorial Tree,in Honor of our fallen Heroes". it's a fifty foot pine on my front lawn with over 5000 lights, and I've invited the families of our fallen to remember their loved ones on it by sending pictures and ornaments, I've had a hard time getting the word out about it. but I'll do it every year ,for as long as I live. Travis if you would happen to see Lindsey tell her thank you for me,she was very professional, and treated me with great respect, but as the interview went on I saw that her eyes were welling up and she was holding back the tears. She did a great job!!...STEVE

Steve... I see Linsey almost everyday so I will certainly pass on your thoughts to her. Thank you for accomodating her and our crew in your time of grief....asking for those interviews are the most difficult part of our job. Often times people perceive the media as cruel and heartless when dealing with families of recently deceased...however, the true intent is always to tell the story of the person, not just the tragedy that happened. I think that Linsey really captured the spirit of Dustin and through your interview and the others the viewer instantly could see how loved he was, and what a wonderful life he lead during his time here on Earth.
I was going to offer to get you a copy of the story if you hadn't already gotten one from her, but I wasn't sure if you wanted one. PM me your address and I'll get that out by the end of next week, and I'll give you some contact info for Linsey....as Dustin's anniversary nears she may be interested in doing a story about the Memorial you have created.
Thanks. Travis

Yes I did,and thank you very much Travis,I can't remember ever seeing that piece, brung back a lot of feelngs, just now getting back to "normal", well the new normal I should say, because my son's death has changed me, I'll never be the same as I was before, part of me died too,but there has been some amazing things happen in our life, and I've met some truly special people since he left, such as yourself ,who have made things a bit easier. now I wish I could find someone to shoot traditional archery with, I have a nice place here with a couple ponds,a woods, and my own little archery course(17 targets),but as nice as this place is,I find it hard sometimes to have to shoot alone.
