I have been drawn 2 years in a row! ;D I probably just jinxed myself. Do you usually get to hunt when you go for a fill in or for a daily drawing hunt?

In the past Roush Lake had about 120 stakes to shoot on so the draw was pretty good. Usually you could go on the first two days and get in as a stand-by shooter because of the no shows. Last year the cut the stakes down to under 50 and had a draw for the no-shows spots. The cut on shooting stakes took over 140 spots away for hunters over the two day opener. Up here in the north we also have to compete with the Michigan boys that come to Indiana and shoot dove at Roush Lake, Salamonie, Missisinawa and Mongo. Less stakes = Less hunter opportunity which is not good for our sport. h.h.

Roush Lake. I called them this AM and talked to a woman who said there are 42 spots available each day and according to her you have to use steel shot but i think shes wrong about the shot. She read me the rules and said " steel shot is welcome". So i ask her if it was required and she got snappy and said " what did i just say", so i thanked her and hung up. with that high of a draw number usually you don't get a very good field so i might not go, especially if i have to use steel shot. what i dont understand is why dont the dnr publish the rules in the hunting manual for dove hunting like which areas require steel shot since not all of them do? h.h.

No problem. Yes you would think they would know. Last year I bought maps of National Forest land in Michigan before we went hunting up there. The lady I talked to was very nice and accomidating. I asked her, "how current are these maps?" she said, oh they're the newest we have". So $26 later, I receive my brand new, published in 1979 maps! There were housing editions on what the map said was NF! Very disappointing.

Pigeon River and Kankakee require non-toxic shot.
Also some DNR have some Fields that are non-toxic shot only like in J.P. and some have 50 round shell limits so be careful.

I still haven't received any word from Salamonie yet. My buddy was drawn for Roush on the 1st so i'm not too concerned anymore. I just hope the doves don't pull a disappearing act like they did last year.
