Many of you have followed my 8-year old son's rocky road since being diagnosed with a rare bone disease in his hip 18 months ago. Unfortunately he's had more downs than ups since we learned back in June that the disease was also present in his right hip joint. Since then, as the ball of his femurs slowly compressed and literally crushed under his own weight, despite being in a wheelchair most of the day. Some of the muscle tissue has atrophy, and the tendons around the joints on both legs have became increasingly tight to the point that he can't bend over to tie his own shoe, or it's a struggle to take a step up a stairway.
On Tuesday morning we go into St. Vincent's Children's Hospital to have the tendons around both joints severed so that the femurs can once again try to rotate normally in the joints. It's not a surgery that will fix his problem, but will hopefully give him back some of the range of motion that he's lost. The surgery should take about 90 minutes to 2 hrs and as can be expected my son is pretty frightened. He's a tough little boy, but he could certainly use some thoughts of strength and encouragement through this surgery.
You guys are great.... Thanks.

Travis,
My thoughts and prayers are with your son and your family.
This has to be the toughest thing going for a parent. Us adults are strong(sometimes) and can handle just about anything that happens to us, but when it comes to our kids- it's a heart breaker to see them hurting.
You son is in good hands both with the doctors he has seen and our Lord. Prayer is a strong medcine.
Please keep us informed and tell your son that the folks on Hunting-Indiana are with him 110%.
God bless...
WW

Just on for a second to check e-mail.... The surgery went well, but the recovery has been awful. He's been on morphine and it's sent his emotions on a rollercoaster! The surgeon did a lot of cutting in his right hip and it's really causing a tremendous amount of pain, especially when he's had to try and use the restroom at a beside toilet. He did make a lot of progress this evening and we should be coming home from the hospital tomorrow....
Thanks to all of you again! Kyle read all your well wishes before we left for the hospital and he got a huge grin on his face to know a bunch of strangers were thinking and praying for him. We all appreciated it very much!

Update- Kyle is doing MUCH better than he was in the hospital. He still hurts a ton when his pain meds wear down, but when he's fully medicated he's really starting to move those legs around TONS more than he could in the hospital. He's still limited to downstairs, and it will be another week before he attempts to climb stairs, but he's more than happy to have the 52" HDTV instead of the 19" in his room. LOL His spirits are much brighter over the past 24 hours and hopefully it's a sign of good things to come. Since he's been camped out in front of the TV for the past 2 days I think he knows the Outdoor Channel lineup better than I do! His only request is that they have more bear hunting. LOL Thanks again guys!
