So where are the good places to go camping at? Something that is within 2-3 hrs of New Albany.

Are you looking at State parks or State forest? Private camping area's? What will you be camping in? Backpacking tent? Camper? Wall tent? Hoosier Nat. offers some place's if you want to backpack in for a nice little get away. Some of the In. state forest have camping area's for tents and campers. And this time of the year they are not crowded at all. Yellowwood state forest, Morgan-Monroe State forest both have nice camping area's and lots of trails to hike....
e-mail me if you like and we can talk more about it...

Harrison-Crawford near Corydon is not too bad (can get crowded). New Harmony State Park between Mount Vernon and New Harmony is nice as well.
In Kentucky: Green River state Park down near Campbellsville/Greensburg (East of I-65 between Elizabethtown and Bowling Green);
Barren River is another (east of 65, slightly south of Bowling Green).

You might try Starve Hollow if you want to take a rowboat or trolling motor and do some fishing too.

Just East of 135 in Valonia. South of Brownstown in Jackson County. There is a Stet Fish Hatchery and a State Tree Nursery there.

They have electric and non-electric. Some of the non-electric sites are directly on the water which is really nice for the fishing and if you have a boat you can just pull it directly into your campsite.

When did they put in the electric sites? Oh my gosh it has been 15 years since I was there last. Darn where did the time go? Do they still sell the fire wood at so much for a tub all you can stuff in it. Came from a saw mill as I recall.

The electric sites have been there for quite some time. When they first put them in there was not shade at all, but now all of the trees have grown quite a bit and it is pretty nice over there. All the electric sites are on your left as you come into the campgrounds. I am not sure about the firewood as I always bring my own.

When we went there. Sometime between 89 and 95 they had a big place on the left as you went in that they sold firewood out of. It was saw mill first cuts, wood with bark still on it but for a buck a tub and the tub was 1/2 of a plastic 55 gallon barrel. All you could stuff into and on top of the tub without it falling off. For a 3 or 4 day trip one tub would last for all of it.

I really enjoy Turkey Run. Very nice wooded campsites and a lodge if everything goes to hell in a handbasket like it does sometimes when camping. There is great canoeing and a swimming pool. We had a great time.
