I just got an email this morning from the Michigan DNR letting me know they had messed up the preference points and my unsuccessful drawing is now successful. I will be going up there with my dad some time in September or October to hunt on my aunts property in the U.P.

My dad and I went on a bear hunt over Labor Day weekend with Black Eagle Outfitters in Maine. I am a Math Teacher so we couldn’t stay long. We got there Saturday afternoon and got to our blinds at 5:30 at 6:30 I saw a bear coming down the mountain. Since I had never seen a bear in the woods before it looked huge to me. I decided it was the one I wanted so I shot. It ended up being pretty small but I was as happy as could be. It weighed 95 pounds and was about five feet tall or so. The next day we couldn’t hunt because there is no Sunday hunting in Maine. So we went with the guide to freshen his baits, he has 22 in all. Monday was the last day of our hunt and we went to a spot that had good sign but nothing showed. The next day a guy killed a bear in that same spot. I would definitely recommend this guy to anyone who wants to go on a quality bear hunt.

I wondered if you put a bag of corn next to a pond are the deer there for the water or the bait. If they came for the water and ate the corn then there would be no problem I suppose but if the deer came for the corn and got a drink you could be in trouble. I don't think the problem would be with the CO's but I would think if someone could get a good lawyer the citation may not hold up in court. I suppose that is the way most laws work though. If you have enough money and can get a good lawyer you can get away with things that most people can't.

The old growth forest are nice but they have very little value to wildlife.

There is an article in Petersen's Hunting that atlks about the lack of timber harvest on federal lands. This is the leading cause of lose of habitat for small game. Without the new growth forest the small game does not have suitable habitat and their numbers continue to decrease.

If they are going to pay him 350 million then they are probably going to 10 times that amount off ticket and merchandise sales because he is on their team. It is a business just like anything else. If you want to make a profit you have to have the best product available.

When you lose, you are always trying to figure out what the reasons were. Some people want to blame the out of state comments for the new rule but we all know the majority of Indiana hunters were for the change. Now it is my belief and many others that changes should not be based on anyone’s opinion but on scientific fact. If we were taking a vote on whether there should be a change nonresidents should not have a vote but if we are considering a change we should take the input of the most knowledgeable people in that field.

Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.

It would be a good story but I am sure if an eleven year old killed a man they would need years of counseling.

The Bill of Rights does not apply to students in a school setting. Their are some court cases where this precedent was set.

I have read stories of people shooting muzzleloaders and taking game in ranges in excess of 300 yards also. I saw a guy shoot I think it was a .357 free handed and hit a target 250 yards away. In the hands of most hunters, they fit the criteria established by the DNR. There is always the exception.

HPP are a medium range weapon. They may fire bullets that have long range capabilities but they are not long range weapons.
