I'm settled into my stand. Cams showed a good amount of movement last night. No shooters, but hopefully they are around.

Back in Indiana climbing the stand at my house and saw what looked a good buck chasing a doe on the neighbor's property. I must've lost my crossbow crank handle in KY so $40 for another one on Amazon. Cocking it the old fashioned way is a chore. Definitely an eye opener to get the string all the way back and not just past the dry fire catch.

I've been hunting in KY since Saturday. Very slow movement. One buck chasing a doe on Saturday has been about it. Set up for a few hours this morning.

2 small bucks harassing a doe in cornfield. She wanted nothing to do with them.

Hunted a couple hours behind my house tonight but only saw 1 squirrel. Two nice bucks, I would estimate 3.5 year olds, visited my scrape cam the last couple days. I freshened the scrape up with some Mountain Dew infused pee of my own.

Fairly slow hunt for us. Very thankful for treestand umbrellas and the rain stopping before dark. We had a doe about 400 yards out in a cut corn field maybe an hour before dark. Saw a 4 point enter the field 150 yards away with maybe 25 minutes of legal light left. I figured nothing to lose so I grunted at him. He stepped a few yards closer and my daughter said to grunt again.
He stood still maybe 2 minutes then came all the way across the field on a string with me calling ranges to her the whole time. When he got to 26 yards he stopped slightly quartering forwards and she let the bolt fly. The buck hauled tail back to where he entered the field.
We got down and couldn't find any blood or the bolt. We zigzagged across the field in the fading light with our flashlights back to where we thought he entered the woods and still nothing. I had a bad feeling about heavy rains and morning searching when she said that she saw him. He made it just inside the woods before dying.
The bolt went through the near shoulder, one lung, clipped the liver before exiting. Gut material plugged the exit hole. Not a drop of blood found between the shot site and him.
Finally got him quartered and on ice. Rehabbing gear tomorrow. This is her last buck as a youth hunter. She was very excited. It's not her biggest buck, but it was a fun hunt.

Settled in a ladder stand with my youngest. I'm afraid the light variable winds are going to screw us.

Watched a coyote hunt in neighbor's field for 20 minutes or so. It caught at least 2 small mouse-sized animals.

Small 8 point in range. Came in from downwind. He knew something was up, but never could figure out where I was.

Set up in a blind again with my youngest watching a cut corn field. Warm and windy, but only evening we can hunt for a few days so we are trying it.

Didn't see a thing from the blind. Left a little early and saw 6 or 7 in the same field. We just picked the wrong entry point tonight.

I just finished getting her quartered and on ice. She ran into the worst briar thicket. Idk how she ran so far with no lungs. Maybe 300-yard drag to the truck. I drug her ungutted to help keep debris out of her gut cavity. She was 120 pounds field dressed. My back is already screaming. We have maybe 5 pounds of meat from last year in the freezer, so it's good to start restocking. I hope to get m youngest out next weekend.

Doe down. Double lung and she still went way over 100 yards into a thicket. Will be awhile getting her out.
