M4 I have worked at Crane for 23 years now and have hunted it 22. I actually live between the Martin State Forest and Huron. My mail just comes from Mitchell. I did live in Hobbieville not far from Springville for a couple years.
Mrfixit Any area is a good area at Crane just don't get too picky, There are some big deer at Crane but to really hunt them you need more time then a State hunter gets or get lucky enough somebody pushes one your way. I have hunted several areas and have taken nice deer from them all. For the trophies I put days and sometimes years into them. I hunt mostly for meat so it took 10 years between my P&Y and B&C For the Firearem hunts I change my tactics to hunting escape routes since there are usually a lot of hunters bumping deer around. I do try to get as far from a road as I can get.
If any of you are there look me up I should be parking cars on the first day. After that my daughter will finally be old enough to go so I will taking her.
Good Luck and Good Hunting to all.
Bob

There is a review of the Electra in the September issue of American Hunter. I believe it said that the battery is under the grip cap. I don't know how hard it is to get at but suspect it has 2 screws holding it. I don't think it will fail as fast as the Remington for the same reasons danf stated. I have always tried to steer away from relying on something battery operated when I go into the woods.

Woody Chalk up a 8 point buck for Team 9 I should have let him walk but he gave me a shot I couldn't refuse. Besides my daughter told me I couldn't take the ten before I left the house, she wants it for herself. Took him with my Encore. Thanks Bob SCORED...

Great work Woody Love the antimated picture. I showed it to my daughter which is hunting deer for the first time this year and it helped her understand the importance of aiming for the lungs better.
Thanks Bob

All clothes washed in Scent away soap and dried with dirt dryer sheets then put in X large ziploc with dirt wafers. Shower in Scent away green soap then put on street clothes that have been washed in scent away soap. Put on camo at hunting area and spray down with scent away spray. use dirt or white acorn wafers in the tree. Closer to and during rut I may put out some tinks 69. I have had as many as 16 deer in bow range in a day 1/2 of them down wind using these methods. I hunt 17' up from fixed stands. Works for me Never put much stock in charcoal suits.

Due to a disability that won't let me draw a compound without causing me more long term damage I have been using a crossbow since 2004. After using the crossbow for this period I have decided that if I had my choice I would go back to compound. I do enjoy hunting with the crossbow since it allows me to hunt when I wouldn't be able to otherwise. It does have a lot of disadvantages compared to the compound. The two most prevalant are that it is very heavy and it is easy for the quarry to pick up on. The compound is vertical and blends in with the woods better while the crossbow is horizontal and any movement of the limbs while aiming is picked up by deer and turkey easily. They are also very noisy.
I do not believe that the woods would be run over by crossbow hunters if they were legal in early season if that was the case we would have seen a major increase in the late season when they were made legal then. I do think it would help more youth hunters get started in archery season at an earlier age. Anytime we can give the youth more opportunity we should do it they are our future.
My 2 cents Bob

Thought it was a great stand. Until the first time it left me 15 ft up hugging the tree while watching it do its dance all the way to the bottom. That was the last time I used it.

I have not seen this years regs for Crane yet but I doubt they will be allowed on Crane. They usually are not signed off by command until the end of August. There is talk about lowering the age limit from 14 to having a Hunter Ed card but that has yet to be approved.

I the smallest I hunt is 20 huntable acres of 40 around my house but only when I don't have the time to drive up to Crane. THe house is surrounded by State, National and Timber property but I rarely get off of my property.
