I’m going to head out for what will likely be my last hunt of the season in about an hour. One last doe tag to fill. Landowner saw 13 does in the cut corn field 2 nights ago. Hope they show up tonight!

Completed my bundle tonight. 4 does came from bedding across a big horse pasture headed to cut corn field. I was waiting for them at the base of a huge oak tree. 50 yard shot. She went 40 yards after the shot. First muzzleloader deer ever. Great evening!

I know. I’m not disappointed in the harvest, just that I assumed wrong. I thought it was doe and fawn. Instead, twin button bucks. When the other walked up towards me and I realized he was a button, I was happy to get momma, only to realize I had taken his brother. Wonder what he would’ve turned into in 3 or 4, maybe 5 years. Too late to worry about that. Made a good shot so I was thankful for that. First time shooting a button buck. I’ll pull the binos up next time. If you are in an area or have the property where they will survive that long, congrats to you. Up here, I've only seen a 5 1/2 (I think) on trail cam at night, they don't live that long. If not the hunters, then it's the poachers. I hunt a 300 acre parcel and there’s a few 5 year olds on camera every year. I’m very fortunate to have this spot.

Button buck on Thanksgiving morning! Was a little bummed but he’ll eat good! Dont be bummed. If I could shoot all little ones, that would be the ticket. They die fast, gut easy, butcher easy, and taste great! I know. I’m not disappointed in the harvest, just that I assumed wrong. I thought it was doe and fawn. Instead, twin button bucks. Not live from the stand and a day late as I’ve been busy! But yesterday morning I tagged another ten point in my reduction zone spot! He wasn’t near as big as mine from last Sunday but he got my heart thumping so he went home with me! Now to help a farmer that lets me hunt his property with some does! Griffey lake next weekend for a couple does as well! I’m blessed this season!

He will have some major deductions though. You still think he makes it? Gross is for the wall, nets are for fishing. Solocam, I couldn’t agree more! I like scores but don’t care that much. You could tell me he scores 100 inches after deductions and I wouldn’t mind a bit. He’s still going on the wall right next to some of his buddies.

Woke up and saw the temps and had half a mind to go back to sleep. I go anyways, with little optimism. Get to my spot and park and start thinking about going to a different stand rather than my climber that I had moved the morning prior. I talk myself out of it and head for the climber.
I had my climber on as big of tree that it would fit and that made for some noisy and hard climbing. But I made it up maybe 15 ft and called it quits. My platform was slanted and I knew it wouldn’t be a comfortable sit. All this played into me not being very optimistic, all while sitting in a good spot.
About 7:15 I see a doe on the opposite hillside from me acting very funny but never acted like she was being pushed. She eventually bedded. 10 mins pass and I hear one loud grunt. I look up and see antlers and he’s pushing a doe. Maybe the same one I had seen bed down but I think it was a different one. I hit him with 1 single grunt and that’s all it took. He turns and comes to the base of my tree. Inside 10 yards. He took off and crashed about 80 yards away.
Awesome hunt that I won’t soon forget!
Would anyone allow me to send pics to them and then post them? I can text them or email them! Whichever is easiest!

All settled in for the last half hour or so. Between two standing corn fields in a 75 yard wide woods. Really good rut spot but with falling acorns and corn, I figured I couldn’t go wrong. We shall see. Good luck guys.

I’m on the board in the urban zone! Earn a buck doe is down! Right at last light she fed in to 30 yards. She ran 40 before tipping over! Right behind my house! Short drags are the best!
