I had the same thought of the wounded Mooresville deer. But on the other hand, can you imagine the story if I had put the deer out of his misery an hour sooner? Especially on a deer that caliber. It crossed my mind, but made me far to nervous to pull the proverbial trigger.

Tradbow, your post was less than fair to me. And that’s surprising, after our phone call. I didn’t “make up” a story. I didn’t have a hidden agenda. I didn’t provide faulty information. And I was fair to you and the police dept from the get go. So I wish your post had been as fair to me, as we both were to each other on the phone. I did the right thing from the beginning, and I’ll hang my hat on that. My goal was for the right thing to be done with the deer, and I believe in the end, that’s what’s happening. Was hoping we would hear from you ! I’m not one for back and fourth. Or making an a** out of myself. At all. So I won’t get into a ing match. But I believe in treating everyone fairly. Go back and read my posts. I was fair, IMO, from the start.

Not live, but I punched my buck tag this morning! Not my biggest, but maybe my most memorable. Awesome hunt all around! 9:45 am tending to his doe that he wouldn’t let out of his sight all morning! Finally she brought him by for a 15 yard chip shot! Now to kill my reduction doe!

I emailed what I thought was the district 6 CO. He emailed back today and said he wasn’t the right guy to handle this situation. I’m emailing back to see if he can point me in the right direction.
Unfortunately, I feel like I’m chasing my tail.

Sounds to me like mr. Officer wanted the rack….. Ida given him a hard way to go if it was on my property, shoot i would’ve called my buddy who is a CO and had him come over. I doubt mr. Officer would’ve left with it. If that deer had been on property I hunt, they would’ve gotten a call after I did what needed to be done.

Those were some of my initial thoughts. But I had to be careful not to fall into the same trap of “wanting the antlers”. I was glad he wasn’t suffering. But through some investigating of my own, and not being allowed to go take pictures, I was very skeptical of what went on back in that wood lot. I also try to be careful assuming someone’s motives without concrete proof. But I would definitely like this to be followed up on and make sure.

That is verbatim what I was told. Actually, when I walked up to the window, I asked, “are you guys handling the deer?” And without hesitation, I was told, “yes, and you can’t have it!” Fair enough, although I didn’t ask for it. I was just being curious. Or nosey if that’s how some see it. I wish he had been more understanding of the fact that I was genuinely curious. And that I was who called the buck in for someone to investigate and put down if necessary, which was very obvious.
That being said, I’m a Back the Blue guy. 100%. I’ll assume he had a rough shift and didn’t want to deal with a bunch of people asking questions.

Yesterday around noon a truck driver tells me at work there’s a buck laying on our retention pond dam. I go out to investigate and he wasn’t lying. A big buck. I got close enough to investigate but didn’t want to spook him. I noticed he was breathing hard and didn’t care that I was only 25 yards away. A couple times he just laid his whole head down. He was not well. He was about 100 yards off of highway 67, so I assume hit by a car and limped over to where he could rest. Thoughts??
He finally got up and I watched him walk through a small field, across a parking lot at a neighboring business, and into a small wood lot. He walked very gingerly, slow and with clear damage to his right side. He had a “guy shot” walk going on, flickering his tail every ten yards or so. At lunch I drove over to the business and talked to a guy that worked there and he agreed to walk me back to the wood lot to try to locate him, and call DNR. I was able to locate him bedded and not doing well still. I then called DNR and was told that an officer would call back and come check it out.
After I got back from lunch I noticed a few Mooresville police cars in that lot. I went and talked to an officer and he said the buck appeared to have a wound on his face. He said an officer was taking the head and that the meat was ruined from infection.
I was glad the deer wasn’t suffering any longer. He was really bad off. I was a little bummed the head was the only thing being taken. And selfishly, I was hoping I would be considered for that. But knew it was a long shot. I would’ve even offered to take the deer down to Little Bucks, as it’s only a couple miles north, for a donation.
Long story short, the buck was dispatched. They wouldn’t let me go take a couple pictures for some reason. But I did get some sent to me later in the day. I also have a couple of him laying on our dam. If anybody would offer to post them, I’ll email or text them to someone.
Beautiful buck, and a sad ending. I hope he gets shown off somewhere for a long time.

I paid $425 last year. I took a fox of mine to him Saturday, and it hasn’t gone up. He does good work too. I’d recommend him to anyone.
