Yep I was glad to see it changed. Being from IL I love the either sex tags. They don't handcuff a guy who is maybe just trying to fill his freezer or take some does off his property.

Some good points. Thank you for not attacking the idea or making me feel stupid for suggesting it.
Other boards I have been on in the past aren't quite as civil as this one is most of the time.

I would think it would be more expensive than that if it was offered A LOT more expensive than that! I had suggested to the DNR that they have a "Sportsman's License" that would be like the lifetime license only on a yearly basis at what cost they thought appropriate. I guess the best that they could do was the "bundle". I still think that the bundle should be two antlerless tags and one either sex. [/quote] Woody, This year you could take 3 antlerless deer with the bundle if you wanted. How many deer can I harvest with a deer license bundle? This license includes privileges to harvest 2 antlerless deer and 1 antlered deer or 3 antlerless deer. The bundle cannot be used in an urban deer zone to satisfy urban deer zone bag limit DNR- Deer Facts

I submitted this idea to the DNR page. I would like to see land owner tags extend to immediate family and their spouses even if they don't live with the land owner. My in-laws do not hunt but they do enjoy the meat that I get when I hunt their ground. To me it seems fair that they own their land and pay taxes on that land why shouldn't they be able to let somebody use their land owner tags if they aren't going to use them. They could even make them declare the person before the season and sign some sort of waiver or register it with the DNR.
What do you think? am I off the mark?

We also run a feeder in the winter. This year we are actually adding a second feeder to one of our other pastures.
When we take inventory we usually put out corn on the ground along with apple flavored horse treats. The deer go nuts for them!

I don't know anybody who uses Ozonics but I do have a friend who uses one of those Ozone machines to remove the odor from his gear. He puts the machine in a closet with all his stuff and turns it on. He loves it and is always telling me I should look into them.

You kill a doe that is carrying twins or triplets and that adds up to 3-4 for next year in my book. So are you saying you don't kill does? The odds of all three triplets surviving are pretty slim.

My uncle shot a 10 point about 12 years ago in southern IL that field dressed 270. His neck was huge!

lots of folks complaining about numbers being down in ky too. oddly enough ky is around 2000 shy of breaking the record harvest which, wait for, was set last year when everybody said the same thing then. if deer numbers are down then how can this be? I don't know about KY but the numbers in IL don't lie. The real question now is will Illinois DNR actually take steps to help build these low numbers or will they say this is still a good healthy large herd? We all know the state is bassakwards and poorly managed by the peoples republic of Chicago. I guess we will have to wait and see

According to the IL DNR harvest reports for the firearm season. First season accounts for roughly 70% of the total number and second season about 30%. If you look at this years first season numbers IL is on pace to take a total of about 80,000 deer for the Firearm season.
Totals for the last five firearm seasons are as follows-
2008- 106,018 2009- 99,755 2010- 98,944 2011- 97,820 2012- 99,541
Record is 2005- 123,792
That puts them down about 19,000 from last year and down 43,000 from 8 years ago when they set their record.

Well Friday in Southern IL wasn't to bad but Saturday was super windy and that hurt us. Even with perfect weather the numbers would still have been really low. The Illinois deer herd is not in "great" shape right now. The Bow numbers are also down about 4500 deer from this time last year.
Hopefully the DNR will consider lowering the number of tags given next year for both in state and out of state hunters along with closing the antlerless late season in more counties. But that being said I doubt IL will do much because deer hunting is big business and with the cost of tags these days and the condition of the states budget I am sure they will put some kind of spin on this and if anything try to sell more tags next year.

I am with alot of what was said above. I would maybe not let him hunt opening weekend but the following week and when he does hunt I would probably tell him it has to be a doe or maybe a certain buck you want off your place. Then invite him to come back this spring and summer to help put in the leg work needed to manage a property and preprare it for deer season.
If they don't understand why they just can't show up and start killing then maybe they need to find another place to hunt.

We used to stay in my grandparents house on our family farm when I was younger. Now that they have passed and we sold the farm to a cousin he lets us park 2 campers down there and we have a fire pit between them that we do all of our cooking on. We have 8 people in out camp for the IL gun season.

I usually bow hunt alone and I have come to really enjoy the peace and quiet of being by myself. If I feel the need for contact I will just text buddies who are hunting at their properties. During gun season in IL we have a full deer camp of 8 guys ranging in age from 58 to 13 and as I get older it is something that I look forward to every year even if the hunting sucks deer camp is always fun. You just can't replace that bond you have with family and friends in deer camp. Some of the best memories I have are around the fire at night telling stories.

Savage model 220 20 ga. with the accutrigger topped with a Cabelas Slugger EXT scope and loaded with Hornaday SST. Using a Claw sling to tote it around! Love this gun! 4" grouping at 200 yards! Not shabby for a shotgun! I will also be using my Savage 220. Except mine is the camo pattern topped with the Nikon Slug Hunter and I shoot Remington Accu-Tips. I dropped my IL buck last year @ 180 yards. This is an awesome gun!

You could always bow hunt and you won't have to wait for the 16th.
