So lets here it. Where are you going to be at the crack of dawn come Oct.1? I'll probably be at my in-laws in Brown Co. or at the family farm down the road. With gas as high as it is now I'll definately be hunting closer to home.

Ill be in Hancock county as usual sitting in a fence row that runs into an abandoned railroad bed. Hoping that the 10 guys that hunt the woods 1/2 mile away will spook everything my way.

Down the ridge behind the house in my ladder stand. Unless Kevin1 decides to hunt it that day. If that happens I will be in the ash tree I took by buck from last year that overlooks a meadow and the back of a finger of Patoka lake. Or I may.... Shoot I will be in a tree outback.

Probably in a pine tree that sits about 75 yards from a set of spoil banks in Warrick County..
325 yards to the south are fields of soy beans and one good sized one of clover..

Oct 1st?
Guess I will be getting a head start. I will be sitting in my treestand Sept 15 and hunting the urban zone. Doesn't matter what steps into the shooting lane, buck or doe.
I do hope everyone has a safe and productive hunting season. Good luck to everyone.

I'll be sitting in a tree in the Lynnville coal mines a ways back of the road over looking a funnel were a few trails intersect between a few bedding areas and a trail that leads to some soybean and cornfields about 250 yards to the south waiting for a bruiser to be heading back from a night of feasting or waiting for one of the other 50 or so hunters that hunt closer to the road to spook some deer my way

I haven't really decided yet , a lot will depend on the temps . If it's really hot I'll just see if I can snag one here at home . If it cools down a little I may just take Raporter1 up on his offer , that ladder gets a lot of traffic .

I can't believe what I just found out.... I have only been hunting now for 6 years, and my father never hunted or took me hunting growing up, but he knows how much it means to me now as a 32 year old man and how I'll pass this heritage on to my children as well. He knows I haven't missed opening morning in 6 years also. Well, come to find out this morning, my dad (retired church worker) and mother are hosting a marriage seminar on improving your marital relationship at our church....STARTING AT 7:30am ON OCTOBER 1ST!!!! I couldn't believe it. I'm still at a loss of words. I told my wife to take good notes, and I'd read them when I got home from the woods! ;D ;D I love you dad....but you're KILLING me on this one. Hope nobody minds if I show up to church in full camo! Guess I'll have to wait until Saturday afternoon this year!

My opening day plans are still up in the air at this point. My favorite hunting spot just went up for sale so it may be sold by the time Oct. 1st arrives. Even if it isn't I'm still left with the internal debate of whether to hunt the land as much as possible before it is sold or to wait until the best time, as I had originally planned. Either way I will probably spend more time in the HNF in early archery and more time in a neighboring county during firearms season.

I told my wife to take good notes, and I'd read them when I got home from the woods! ;D ;D That's exactly what I would have said , the only difference is that I would be on my stand in the morning , and I'd still be there that afternoon . The fact that your parents have made other plans doesn't mean that you're obligated to join them . My Mom used to dream about me becoming a Catholic priest , you can just imagine her disappointment ... ;D

I have been considering HNF as well...I need to get down there and look around a bit and maybe set some waypoints on the gps..

I just got confirmation to hunt the same property in Carrollton, KY that we have been hunting the last few years. Its always a toss up due to new tenents or him leasing it out for cows or horses. No horses, cows or renters this season. The pasture hasnt been cut since we were there turkey hunting in the spring. I saw some booners last year that were just out of my shooting range. (Riverjim ...no coments) Anyway cant wait to get back down there. Im pretty stoked!

I'll set up in accordance with wind direction, so won't decide until then. Probably have a least 20 or so options to kick around.
I don't get too excited about this early season stuff. Normally use it for long range recon and checking out new spots. Save the best spots for after about October 20th.

On September 3... I'll be about 16 ft up a red oak.... overlooking a very well used trail leading to our clover patch . Sweating my butt off and occasionaly swatting mosquitoes ...but ... enjoying every minute of it .
