My non-resident grandson from Chicago (who could only hunt 3 or 4 days) used to buy the NR bundle, but never killed more than one deer. This gigantic leap in the NR bundle made a buck only hunter out of him. He just buys the NR General Firearms license now. I'm sure that the bean counters have figured out that Indiana will not lose any license monies by this change Exactly…. And resident Deerhunters had been demanding the DNR raise the NR license fee.Seems that may have went little to far…

I bought the lifetime everything license the first opportunity I had. Seemed like a LOT of money that I didn't have at the time, no matter how much it was. Now DOUBLE THAT, because I bought my son one who didn't even need a license yet. Since then he has deer hunted with me ONCE and has NEVER KILLED anything but fish. He is 38 now.
It all was worth every penny and I don't have an ounce of sympathy for people complaining about paying their own way now. Everyone in this country had the same choices I had and they made theirs just like I did.

Yes SFC, was good being able to hunt with your leave papers back home and yes, the price of land is crazy back home. I've been looking as well, Not sure if it's just greed or what, but I've seen some people trying to get 10-15k per acre, and even a couple for even more than that. I can see prime farmland being sold toward the 10k mark, but not any type of just wood lots, and most of those have already been logged. Think this year, I will just get the NR Buck, save a little money. Costs me a K just in gas money driving to and from home. Gotta love a state that treats it's vets well...SF Woody

I understand your point, but my question is, why is it so much more expensive in IN vs KY, and what exactly are we getting with that extra money. Are we just pumping more money into bloated government bureaucracy? Making things worse? Because those that did not buy or were not born yet have to make up for the loss of income from lifetime license holders.

While I paid HUNDREDS others got used to a free ticket or $15. Now the HUNDREDS have been wasted by the people charged with managing it and it is a new feeling to a few to pay their full freight.

I've always been told that indiana stopped selling lifetime license because there was an extreme loss of revenue. What I find interesting from my out of state hunt is how many states still sell lifetime licenses. Heck tennessee you can buy a former resident lifetime license. If you moved less than 3 years ago you are still eligible to buy one. My question is what are all these other states doing that indiana can't seem to do? I bought mine years and years ago so its no skin off my back but I'm really curious.

As I recall, the reason IDNR sold lifetime licenses was that they were in a serious money crunch, so they sold them as a quick revenue source. Short-term boost , but In the long run, it had a negative effect. (Typical gov't. agency) 😆 🤣

It still brings in revenue and good for the environment and local tourist

What did Indiana do wrong

Mine cost me I think 525$. I almost didn't buy mine, my wife told me to do it. That was a lot of money for us back then. I had just cashed my fur check from trapping that year and bought mine. I was 32 at the time and now at 59 looking back it has been one of the best investments that I have made.I don't even know what a deer tag or hunting license cost today. If they ever do bring them back they ain't going to be cheap, but at the time 525$ wasn't either

I think they should bring the lifetime licence back for older adults on fixed income because it hard to pay the higher & higher prices of hunting. But then they keep asking why older hunters stop hunting, maybe it's because they can't afford it.
