Amen to the non-resident tags getting out of hand. At $550 for a non-resident deer bundle it is substantially more than any other state bordering Indiana. I even own the land I hunt on in Indiana but get no break on license price since I live in KY. They should at least reciprocate and just charge me what KY would charge an Indiana resident who owns and hunts land in KY. Yep. Pretty ridiculous that family now living out of state has to spend so much to come hunt at home over Thanksgiving or Christmas for a few days.

IDK? Majority of my friends that bought lifetime licenses in late 80's, were also landowners shortly thereafter, some still buy hunting licenses today, just to help DNR get matching federal funds. Anyone that has a lifetime license and still buys an annual is a rare exception. There aren't many of them so it's a non factor. Buying any license gets them the PR money…fishing for example!

On a side note, if you think hunting licenses are expensive, go look at concert ticket prices. For any of the true artists, not a "tribute" band. I heard Billy Joel tickets were $5K/seat.

Yea, since nobody buys albums, CDs, etc. these days they only way for artists to make $$ is to tour, do concerts and sell merchandise. The guys like Billy Joel have to charge a fortune because they don't perform that much and often do smaller venues. There are a few artists that are "fan friendly" and have pledged to keep their ticket prices reasonable, however tickemaster and other second hand brokers jack the prices up further.

Cost me $20 for two sandwiches at Arby's yesterday. The TAX was more than I used to pay for a whole meal at Justrite.

That was less than a half hour pay for a public pool lifeguard.

No kidding, NR tags went through the roof. Costs an arm and a leg for me to hunt our own land there, well over 1k getting back and forth from Ca, I love being back home again and hunting, but I've also just considered being a tag along to my brother while he hunts. I have no problem just sitting out in the woods with nature. One day I will be back home and a resident again...until then, just do what I gotta do to enjoy my hobby.....SF Woody

I got my lifetime license in 1998,$525. My ONLY complaint is not buying hunting and fishing and trapping. That's my fault though, it's easily paid for itself many times over. Bought my license in 94. Best investment that I have made.

I would still have a few years on that. Anybody have info on that one? Thanks, SF Woody

Well, I just got off the phone with DNR. They said my DAV license is good until it expires for Small game and fishing, but if I buy a deer tag, I would still need to buy out of state being as I'm a resident and have a Ca Drivers License. I had to ask at least. Would have been nice being able to buy a deer tag with my DAV License. Hopefully a job opens back there soon...SF Woody

Pretty ridiculous that family now living out of state has to spend so much to come hunt at home over Thanksgiving or Christmas for a few days. This has struck me pretty hard the last few years. When I was still on Active Duty I could hunt at home with just my Leave form. The first year I got to hunt after I retired was 2020 and I think the bundle was +- 295. I thought that was a little salty but for 3 deer ok. When that jumped directly to $550 the year after the Huff Buck was shot I smelled the coffee. It hurts me a little to make the purchase but I also see value in making it more difficult for out of staters to flood in. The over the counter elk season here in CO are enough to prove that to me. Waves of out of shape yahoos from the NE, SE, and Texas riding damn 4 wheelers everywhere, taking shots they have no business trying and now causing point creep on every draw tag as well. I also feel that the previously low cost, along with our reputation for big deer garnered a lot of out of state attention (especially from the south) that contributed to the horrible leasing culture that seems to grow evey years I am lucky enough to be in the financial situation where the cost is not probhibitive to me and DO feel how this can be rough in the way Steiny mentioned. I am currently (and have been) looking for my own land but have come to the conclusion that it will probably be in Michigan. The cost is at least half per acre on average and as a 100% VA vet I would pay zero property tax AND have 2 early rifle hunts....and pay nothing for any license ever. Disappointing to me to not be able to afford home and that MI has MUCH better vet benefits than home as well.

My non-resident grandson from Chicago (who could only hunt 3 or 4 days) used to buy the NR bundle, but never killed more than one deer. This gigantic leap in the NR bundle made a buck only hunter out of him. He just buys the NR General Firearms license now.
I'm sure that the bean counters have figured out that Indiana will not lose any license monies by this change
