Anyone run into every time you buy a firearm getting delayed? Every time I purchase its the same thing. It eventually goes through but a bit annoying. The guy I bought from today at cabelas said the same happens to him. Makes zero sense. The man is authorized to sell guns but still gets delayed. Only thing I can think of is I was born in Germany and maybe that may be causing the issue.

I used to get delayed a lot especially when dealing with a small gun shop. I recently bought a gun at BPS and was approved within a half hour. Took longer for me to get through paperwork and have 3 BPS employees tripple check my info than it did to wait on approval. I used to have to wait a few days, this time it went right through. Who knows what holds them up or sends them straight through.

Bought a gun on Friday, transferred to Indiana and here today. No problems. The last three guns I have bought I walked out of the store (Rural King) in half hour with them in hand. .

The last three guns I have bought I walked out of the store in half hour with them in hand. . Me too .... no issues, however I typically buy from gun shops rather than large retailers. Never was a fan of the way Cabelas displays, shows and sells guns. The small shops are much better at customer service.

Been a long time since I have been in a small shop. Too many times attempted and walked out confused how they stay in biz.

I don't remember the particular gun, but when buying one of many firearms at Gun World in Corydon, I was approved and walked out with mine, while a uniformed Sheriff's deputy was delayed and had to come back. Explain that! He was both laughing and furious at the same time. I saw him at a gold outing a few months later and brought it up. He thought it was more comical by then.

Was in business for a long time. I could be wrong but I think he got out when Obama was in office.

I always start this with the statement: This is not a BS story, my cousin works for the Secret Service. He told me he gets delayed every single time.

My Gunsmith told me the reasons the ATF is using is mostly clerical errors. Where they used to allow the dealer to correct those errors in the past now it starts the revoke process.
I asked him about the special ID number of the 4473. If you are constantly getting delayed you can apply for that number. He added by putting SS number on the form it drops delays to almost zero. I never have had a delay.

I have a UPIN number and still get delayed. I bought a hand gun last week at Rural King and got a delay. I was home about 10 minutes and they called and said it went through and that I can come and get it

It's hit or miss for me. I will never put my SS number on the form.

I get delayed about half the times that I purchase a firearm. Who knows why? All of my info remains the same.
I don't know that I'll be making many, if any, more purchases. I'm at the point of needing to eliminate a lot of stuff.

I used to be able to buy one and get an instant approval with my background check. I’m retired military police so you would think I’d be fine, but there is a guy in Fort Wayne with my same name that is a multiple tiny convicted felon. About the time he started getting picked up, I started getting delays.

My opinion is 100% opposite. Been a long time since I have been in a small shop. Too many times attempted and walked out confused how they stay in biz. I should probably re-word my opinion. Yes, there are a lot of little gun shops that have very little inventory, opinionated management and don't move a lot of product. These places are indeed a pain to deal with. The gun shops I generally deal with are the bigger, better private shops. Two favorites are Four Guns in Lafayette and True Value in Plymouth. The big turn offs regarding places like Cabelas, Sportsman Warehouse, Gander Mountain, etc. are ...... taking a number and waiting in line to see something and escorting you out to your car with your purchase.

Thompson center encore. Changed over from 45/70 pistol to 7-08 rifle. Found pistol just lying in a pawn shop for dirt cheap last Friday. Already had barrel, forend and buttstock. Will add the leupold scope when the rings come in.

Picked up a Turkish over under shotgun at a pawn shop today. Had to wait about 20 minutes but was approved. Can’t wait to get this thing out in a dove field!

Just because I just went through a purchase at Bass Pro, I didn't have to go through anything you described. The tripple check on my info by BPS employees was a bit unnerving but otherwise a pleasant experience. The reason they have 3 employees check the info is to avoid being fined by the ATF or FBI (not sure which) for clerical errors. Other than that they said it would be about a half hour to get word from the FBI they were right on in that department. Employees explained everything that was going on step by step, were very patient while we rang up gift cards and did not escort me to my vehicle. I am in no way knocking local gun shops, and I usually make my gun purchases there but I had the gift certificates for Bass Pro Shops. All I am saying is, I did not feel like I had to go through a bunch of BS to buy my gun other than an additional set of questions from the ATF.
