Generator question for you all. I keep my stored in the shop which is about 200 feet from the house. I have built a cover for it. Just 2 walls a a roof, I left the ends open so I can breathe. With all the snow and wind predicted, would I be better off getting it set up on my back porch before the storm hits or, will that flash freeze prevent me from being able to start it? I have a grill cover on mine that sits behind the barn. Maybe you can put a temporary board up.

When I built my home 22 years ago I installed a transfer switch next to my electrical panel. I have approx. 50' of power cord run through the garage wall and coiled up next to the transfer switch. My generator is on a rolling cart in my garage so if the power goes off I just roll out my generator, fuel it up, plug it in, flip the transfer switch and I am in business. I have the important things wired in such as the furnace, both freezer/refrigerators, well and sump.
I always run my generator at least twice a year and put some type of load on it, I also run it dry after each use.

Sun is shining here right now an it's 34 degrees. Weather.com says possible precipitation to begin tomorrow afternoon. We will deal with whatever the Good Lord brings us.

Check it out ladies and gentlemen! A clean things-to-do list! I sure thankful to have the woman I got! She has worked so hard to meal prep, get all our laundry done and cleaned the house really good just in case we lose power. She battled the crowds in Valparaiso yesterday to ensure we had everything we need here to ride this thing out for a few days. I think she had gotten enough to last a month! Lol! I have filled out two inside wood boxes full of hearty white oak. I wired up the outside electric panel with a breaker and outlet and built a 10' plug for the generator. The generator shelter I built is already in place. Snow shovels are by the porches and at the ready. Vehicles have gas and a fresh, full can of seafoam in each. Chicken lamp is plugged in over the water lines/bladder tank under the house. Driveway reflectors are out just in case a good neighbor wants to plow my driveway before I get it with the snowblower. I really don't know what else we can do to get ready. Just hope and pray everyone makes it through it okay. Also saying lots of prayers for those who have to be out working during this weather event. Prayers for those who aren't as fortunate or need help getting their snow removed, wells running, heat going, etc. And prayers for all you fine folks at Hunting Indiana! I work tomorrow then I am off until next Tuesday.

I've got 1 car in the garage, another one under a roof and the battery charging. Fought the Walmart crowd for some extra food. Got 15 gallons of gas for the generator. The snow shovel and salt are on the porch. I think I have everything ready to go. I'm supposed to work until 7 pm tomorrow. I think I'll skip out around 5 pm.

My genset sits outside 24/7 and it is propane fed. Electric auto start, auto transfer switch. We were without power here today for about 3.5 hours, no idea why.
I will run tomorrow for Kerosene for the salamander and 10 gal non-ethanol gas for the snow thrower. Still have to put the snow thrower on the garden tractor, but I have a place cleared in the pole barn to do that now.

Not sure what everyone else's weather is doing at this moment but, I just stepped outside to leave for work and it is so calm and quiet. Temps aren't bad either. I think I'll stand here a few more moments and enjoy it while I can.

Also going to pick up a generator from Harbor Freight today at lunch just in case.

Sounds like you all are prepared for the worst... LOL. Wishing everyone down south good luck and be safe. As for me, it's -13...-30 windchill, snow coming down. I'm going fishing!

I know it's not always accurate but says online they are still in stock. I did forget to bring my gas can to fill up but one of the perks of doing what I do is I can borrow a fuel can for the weekend.

INTERESTING OBSERVATION: This morning we have had a major push of Blue Birds and Robins. Our feeder is always busy this time of the year however these birds have not been seen for weeks, today they were everywhere.

Still DEAD CALM in NE LaPorte county. Cool and yet kinda eerie with what they are saying is coming. I got everything done I wanted to before it hits, EXCEPT no phone call from work yet. Lol
