EHD is kinda a wierd virus. I have yet read where it orginates from, only deer carry and get it , and midges pass it on to other deer.

From Indiana DNR..... www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/8541.htm"EHD is an extremely virulent disease. It can be up to 90% fatal in deer showing clinical signs of the disease. The disease is characterized by the rapid onset of clinical symptoms. Some deer can survive the late stages of the disease, and not all deer that become infected will become sick enough to show clinical signs. Deer that survive the original infection may become immune to EHD and possibly BTV, and will carry antibodies in their blood. A study in the early 1970s in northern Indiana found about 20% of the deer herd had these antibodies in their blood, which indicated the herd had been exposed to EHD and survived."

This buck was found near Quercus Grove (Switz Co.) last weekend by a friend. 4 miles from me. What a shame.

We found a deer (doe) just standing acting strange and licking really bad and would not run away from us. We called the CO who had a Biologist come over and remove its spleen to check for EHD. The Biologist is going to give us the results but he believes it’s EHD. Our farm is about 5 miles northeast of Vevay in Switzerland county. We have not found any dead deer and hope this is the only one. I will update the thread when I hear the results.

In 6 days I've gotten three pictures of deer in the food plot trail camera. Highly unusual. Not sure what's going on. Hopefully they are getting their bellies full somewhere else (acorns maybe?)and not ehd victims. Starting to get some pictures now. I found out the farm south of me still has very green soy beans.. Food plot competition Best buck so far..

What is also strange is herd immunity. You would think by now after hundreds of years that it would be almost gone and only a small percentage by now would die. I think like most other stuff they have no clue. Just theories and they repeat the same theory propaganda.

Anyone else see the video Don Higgins posted today of the EHD buck in Illinois? I have no idea how to post it,or I would. It's really nice buck with not much time left.

Where I hunt at the Decatur Franklin line has been hit hard. We are up to three bucks, and 6 or 7 does. One adjacent property has found 15. A foot plot in the middle of the woods caught 2 deer in eight days. Other cameras, similar results.
Deer were already thin enough that we didn't shoot does last year. All those deer equal a pretty big hit.

I finally got around to mowing around our small pond yesterday and smelled something bad. This is the first time we have ever seen any kind of disease on our property. It's in Switzerland County.
