I see we can kill a doe during firearms with firearms license with an antlerless bonus permit. My question is does one need to shoot a buck before we can use the permit or can you have firearms license and kill the doe before the buck?

You dont need any other license to use a bonus antlerless license, anytime of the season.

Most F&W Areas do not permit the use of bonus tags. Some other public areas do not allow them either.

So on private property I can blast a doe on first day of firearms with a muzzleloader with a bonus permit before I shoot a buck?

No where or time in Indiana you have to shot a buck first.
Reduction Zones you shoot a antlerless first if using that lic.
Happy Hunting..

Better ask a question if you don't quite understand how the regs are written. Good luck bagging your freezer queen!

Better ask a question if you don't quite understand how the regs are written. Good luck bagging your freezer queen! Exactly! The word "bonus" in the regs does seem to imply "extra" or "after" something else ... like maybe killing a buck first. But like others have said, you can fill your doe quota first.

Tags just need simplified. Saw a guy post he got a ticket for shooting 2 doe's in a 1 bonus antlerless County. Had bundle license and guess with bundle license all does have to be checked in as bonus antlerless. I've got a lifetime and am landowner but man our license structure and limits are complex.

I hear ya. I am exactly same as you. Lifetime license and landowner but I also hunt a friends farm too in another county. My son just turned 18, in March when he gets his license it’s gonna be super confusing as I’ve not had to worry about this for like 20 years. Lol. I just go out and kill stuff and make sure I’m meeting quotas. Lol

First I’ve ever heard of the all does under the bundle must be marked as bonus anterless and don’t believe that to be true. I’ve never read that anywhere. Should be during firearms for sure and some other situations, but not always. His two doe kills could’ve been one bonus and one archery kill.

The fact that seasoned deer hunters like us disagree/discuss these rules is evidence that they need to be clearer.

From the dnr page:
Antlerless deer harvested using a deer bundle license may apply to the bonus antlerless county quota depending in which season you harvest the deer.

Pretty sure when you checkin a antlerless they ask how you want to use it.
If someone got a ticket there is probably more to the story then being told.

From the dnr page: Antlerless deer harvested using a deer bundle license may apply to the bonus antlerless county quota depending in which season you harvest the deer. In his case crossbow. Killed 2 does. 1 bonus antlerless county. Maybe 1 should have been checked archery , other bonus antlerless. Regardless he said a game warden came to house and wrote ticket. IDK

The hunter never should have gotten a ticket. Warning yes, but if you make rules so hard to understand and ambiguous the dnr need to give a hunter leeway. The hunter paid to kill 3 deer. I don’t see a problem here!

DNR goal isn't to write tickets for honest mistakes.
