Question: I have been driving a 2003 silverado with 145,000 miles on it. It has had a fairly easy life and runs well. It has a vortec 4.3 six, automatic transmission. The only things that have happened recently:
The check engine light would come on and flash when I gave it a lot of gas. ( sometimes) I looked it up and it said it indicates a misfire. Other than the light flashing I noticed no changes. I took it in and of course it wouldn't do it. No codes came up either.
Also, three times I have hopped in, ( over a two week period?) started the truck ( cold ) put it in gear, and rolled down the driveway about three seconds and.... *poof,* dead. No sputtering or warning, just dead like an EMP hit. Each time it has started back up and ran flawlessly as usual.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Does it have key fob one of our work vans did that it was the anti theft on the key I really don’t understand it but somehow the key fob killed the motor it didn’t link up with itself so the van thought it was being stolen and shut it self off

Without codes it may be tough.
If it is common issue someone has the fix online. Google exact details and follow the bread crumbs. If lucky a you tube search will be made too

The problem is the bow tie on the front🤣
I had a similar problem in my f150 and the idler air control valve needed cleaned. I don't know if it would be the same on a Chevy or not.

Can't help, but what about more background info. What maintenance has been done to it, when was the last tune up, when was the plug wires/plugs, etc. changed? I don't know if they have coil packs or a distributor.

Quit guessing and take it to a mechanic have it put on a computer.

Quit guessing and take it to a mechanic have it put on a computer. Probably good advice but what's the fun in that?

Nothing wrong with trying to save a buck or two.

I don't know if they have coil packs or a distributor. So far all I've done is oil changes, brake pads and and an air filter maintenance-wise. Not sure about the tune up, though I have asked the mechanics to check it out whenever it is in. I'm sure it's time. BTW, not related to this problem, but anyone that has this era of Chevy truck, check those brake lines. They are prone to rusting. Mine failed while driving through Columbus!

All break lines are prone to rusting. After replacing my lines on a 97 Civic I got to help my brother n law replace his on a Ford freaking ranger a few weeks later.

20+ winters in a road salt environment, that's to be expected.

Harbor Freight sale code readers also! Personally I would be looking at a fuel pressure problem including a dirty fuel filter.

Harbor Freight sale code readers also! Personally I would be looking at a fuel pressure problem including a dirty fuel filter. Rural King as well on the code reader, $15. You have to research the code still, but google and YouTube are handy. I 2nd the fuel issue to look at. Most everything has a Schrader valve port to take a fuel psi reading. Only takes a min. Can tape the gauge to the windshield when driving to monitor if a driveability issue as well. Fuel pumps can get weak, they dont always just go out. Although not common.

Maybe even a bad ground or connection causing fuel to not be delivered or ignited. But probably just dirty/bad gas/clogged filter/something similar.

My 1987 Ford F150 had a high pressure fuel pump under the hood. I had occasional cutouts but no warning lights. When it failed I had nothing. It had pumps in both tanks that fed a pump in the back that fed the HP pump.

My 2001 Suburban with the small 8 had same issue. Did it for a month, no codes when at mechanic's. then just quit and would not start at all. Mine was the fuel pump in my tank.

When you turn the key to run, do you hear the girl pump prime? Is it loud or subtle? No noise is no fuel pump. A loud prime is an indication the fuel pump is on its way out.
Does the fuel gauge work correctly? A non-functioning fuel gauge is also related to the fuel pump.
