Hi All, I'm wondering if I need to call in help for my furnace. We turn it down pretty low at night and in the morning when the thermostat is set higher the furnace stops before reaching the set temperature. It does come back and gets to the temp. Should it be blowing continuously until reaches temp?

Sounds like how ours was acting when the thermostat went out. It eventually just stayed on. Ours was a touchscreen type that came with the unit. Some 200 dollars to replace.

10 point... the burners are probably kicking off on High temp if in a cycle too long. How old is the furnace ? What temp do you take it down to at night ? What temp you raise it to of a morn ?

The furnace is 8 years old. We turn it down to 65 at night and it's programmed to change to 68 in the morning. Sometimes I turn it up to 69. We never really turn it up past 70 because we have gas fireplace that will heat the living room up.

Another thing is the simplest, make sure you have a clean filter in it. You should change the filter about every 2 months maybe monthly if you have inside pets !

Also we have been finding that because people are also running aux humidifiers and using city or well water, its creating a calcium dust clogging filters.

My furnace will go from 68-74 without stopping. Double check the filter. Mine recently was taking longer to make the temp change and the filter was dirty. I had recently started using 3 aux cool mist humidifiers... Change filter and the temp change happened like usual.

Went on vacation to Indiana for a week, neighbor filling wood boiler morning and evening for me. Came home and temp was over 85 in the house, floors, walls, furniture, everything felt hot to the touch. Thermocouple in furnace was stuck!!! Near disaster!! Up here you learn quick how to diagnose things, mechanics, appliance, plumbers, roofers, heating cooling people are far and few. In winter your looking at minimum 2-3 days emergency call, over a week for non emergency calls for furnaces. Further in the sticks you live, the longer it takes. Most are good about walking you thru a check list on the phone.

I hate to be "that guy", but it could be as easy as some bad batteries in your current thermostat. It's a cheap and easy check...

Furnace burners should not shut off until home reaches temperature if they are you have a issue Drop temp in home pull filter if furnace reaches thermostat setting and does not shut off replace. Even though they say a year on those filters a home with pets or kids may only make 4 months If it does shut off with out the filter kill power pull face off thermostat should be a letter R and W On back plate normally the wires under those screws or push tabs will be red and white remove wires from back plate twist together furnace will never shut off if it stays on replace thermostat If neither one of those work you may have one of these issues a dirty flame sensor a furnace 8 years old will have one they need cleaned now and than A weak high limit they normally don’t go bad unless they are tripping a lot due to low air flow normally caused by a dirty filter or a pressure switch going bad but those are only on a 90 plus furnace they make sure nothing is blocking the pvc vent they can’t be repaired they get replaced
