The wife and I are looking at refinancing the mortgage with the rates being what they are, looking like we could potentially save some considerable money on the monthly bill. However with this my wife has put the honey do list into hyper drive. Starting last saturday I've had to lay tile. Took sunday off to see dad who had been hit with covid really hard. Monday-Thursday putting up hardie backer in the shower, tapping, mudding the bathroom and pressure washing the house.
Boy was I ever glad to be back at work, now I'm regretting the days off I have coming up because I know it will be another renewed kick in the pants to get stuff done. 3rd coat of mud, sanding painting, setting vanity, toilet and finishing up tile and grout above shower not to mention grouting on the floor.
I'm tired right now just thinking of all the work I have to do. Last chance offer, I'll pay whatever anyone asks who wants to take my wife off my hands.

I feel your pain. Were not actively trying to refi, but we have been remodeling to dump our PMI.

I'm in the same boat. My journeyman at work tested positive for covid, so as a precaution im at home for 2 weeks. 1st day off and my wife did the same thing: 2 new bathroom faucets, redid the transition strips between the carpet and other flooring, and she has a whole other list. Thankfully I'm outta here this afternoon and all day tomorrow for my daughter's deer hunt over here in Ohio.

The appraiser for our refi hardly looked at anything. Confirmed number of bathrooms, asked us about our HVAC, and any other recent improvements then left. I'm not sure if it was because of COVID or maybe they don't care as much for a refi but he could not have cared less about the details.

I had an appraiser out to look at 2 houses back in November. As long as the houses are relatively new inside (i.e. not stuck in the 1970's with avocado appliances, shag carpeting and seafoam green paint on the walls), the furnace-A/C, water heater and roof are all within 10 years, everything is good.

Bathroom remodels never sound like much fun. I’m getting ready to start putting a bathroom in our basement. I’ve been working on finishing it and that’s the next step. Everything is plumbed in so shouldn’t be too bad. Getting a little electrical work done tomorrow morning. Then it’s off to Menards to pick up a shower and toilet.
We also started the refi process, but then the mortgage company called me to say we had a streamlined rate reduction built in our mortgage. Hardly any paperwork, terms don’t change (don’t lose the years we’ve already paid), but the rate is dropping 1.5%. I’ll take that all day.

Some thing you should look into is a tall toilet sure makes sitting and standing back up easier if you got any knee or back problems or just getting old like me

2021 the year of remodeling seems like about 1/2 the people on here are doing it We try to do something every year. Our house is about 15 years old so stuff is just starting to break down or look old. Last summer we repainted the house and within the next month or so we will be replacing our PLAM kitchen tops with granite. Year before last it was the pool liner.

Ha better you than me!
I need to refurb our bathroom but we only have 1 shower. Tried convincing my wife we need a nice garage with a bathroom. Once that is done...then we can replace our home bath. She is smarter than that!

Got any specific recommendations?

I second that tall toilet idea.
My wife and I are both over 6 foot tall and the taller toilet is NICE.

Install 50K BTU gas heater in the garage. Change blower motor in the wife's car. Install new dishwasher. Change oil in the truck.
That's my weekend. I need to make a beer run!

Well sounds like we are all about in the same boat, can't we propose a year long hunting season or something to get us out of the house. It seems like the more my wife see's me taking a break from all the work, the more she wants to get done. After the bathroom is completed, mudroom needs some cubbies put in for the girls to keep their books, shoes and the like. Then it's off to the laundry room to frame in the washer and dryer to give it a more finished look. after that I get the honor of putting up and down trim work in 3 rooms of the house.
Remind you this is all before I can even lay a finger on my garage that has just been collecting tools and keeping things dry, primarily her car. At any rate fella's "we'll all look back one day and laugh at this". I doubt it, at least my dad is saying that.

But there's the priceless satisfaction and pride in a job well done with your own hands!
And just think about all those employees and stockholders at Lowe's, Menards, Home Depot...you're doing a great public service in keeping their doors open.
I tried to convince a coupe of the younger guys in the tool room at work when they asked me when I was going to retire that I just enjoyed the job too much to even consider it. After all, we got to operate precision machinery worth millions of dollars, machining and repairing tooling of all varieties, and the company supplied us with all the needed materials and supplies and even the utilities, and hauled away our finished products and brought us a new project when we got something done! How much would we pay to have all that in our garage to play with?
Don't think I really convinced them of my sincerity, though. I had the wheels on my tool cart all oiled up for the long push out to the parking lot well in advance of my last day there. 8^)

Assuming you are at a high enough interest rate where it is merited. If you have good credit and are a good bank customer, most banks will gladly do a re-fi to get you down to current rates.
Hope you're not doing all that work anticipating an inspection, because it probably won't be required. The banks earn a nice little fee for each refinance, and they know they need to keep mortgages competitive to retain their good clients.
