Jeff Sturgis has a great new video on YouTube about the WI regulation proposals. I'm not smart enough to post the link. Just search "Whitetail Habitat Soltions" on YouTube if you are interested.

Good points, Matt. I would argue the relative importance of forest cover versus available ample food sources. Especially the corn, which is also major cover during much of the year.
I enjoy hunting the big woods and have taken deer far from any fields down in the Hoosier National, but they were much scarcer and more difficult to pattern and ambush when I was there, as compared to cover strips near food sources such as row crops and alfalfa fields. I get the feeling that they are somewhat like us in that they might be found in remote areas also, but they spend a lot more of their within easy reach of the refrigerator 8^)
Your analysis may well be more accurate when speaking of bucks with large calcium deposits growing from their heads, but my definition of deer quality is more related to when it's wrapped and frozen and in my freezer. They've all been quality hunting experiences. I'm sure your evaluation would be the one more valued form the economic impact standpoint.
I think we share a very similar expectation from government in general.
