Big goose egg for me. There is a ladder blind at the other end of the thicket. I think he was there tonight, its a great spot if you can get in quiet but he hunts it on the wrong wind. Deer probably never got out of bed till after dark.

Seen 3 more and another blowing. One doe was the biggest bodied doe I've ever seen.

Put up another stand today, lots of good sign where it is, just don't know if all the movement is at night or some is in the daytime.
Dang turkeys are living a charmed life. BUT, they must be vacuuming up all the grasshoppers in this one field, they keep making laps around it every few hours. OR something, they just keep making laps. One will make a mistake sooner or later.
If deadeer has time, maybe he can throw up a couple of pictures he has on his phone.....

First day, Putnam report:
On the drive we seen a doe, and a buck moving in the dark... The buck was on the property lane, and he didnt really care about the truck pulling up behind him as he wondered down the middle of it, as we got to about 20 yds he mossied off the road and up the hill in no hurry. (Maybe small 6-8pt) I was covered in Chipmunks and squirrels all morning with a few far off sights of movement but racking it up to squirrels. Uncle didn't see any deer either. We did find some tracks mainly smaller sizes In what places we would be able to see tracks. I only got to hunt the morning, I'm certain this afternoon would of been the best time for the day...
Found a deer skeleton next to the road in a runoff ditch/mud hole Hoping it's just wonton waste and not that 3 letter abbreviation...

My afternoon hunt started very slow. South wind blowing right in my face. Finally at 5:50 I seen the first deer. S button buck cruised by at 12 yards. About 3 minutes later a doe came walking west to east. Soon as she hit my scent stream she stopped. I just knew she was going to bust me. Nope! She snuffed the air and looked my way for a couple seconds, flicked her tail and continued through the corn. She turned her head just enough to let me draw my bow. Soon as I anchored and placed my 20 yard pin on her she stopped on her owe. SMACK!!! I watched as my red/green strobbing nock disappeared right through her lungs. I listened carefully and heard her dive into the woods. I waited 10 minutes to get down. Found the arrow, followed the blood for 50 yards and had her dressed out all within 10 minutes. She field dressed at 100# on the nose. Not huge but, perfect size for me.

Congrats to those who were successful today. Going back in the morning in hopes I don't make a mistake. This time though, there will be 3 of us, my 16 yr old son, wife's Uncle and myself. I'm taking the trusty bow and passing the Saga 405 off to the son. I'm on the fence about morning hunts as the deer don't seem to move as much in the am as they do in the pm

My buddy and I set up a new ladderstand this morning in a spot he picked specifically for me to hunt. It`s in a really thick area, with a couple really good runs through the thick stuff. The kind of place you expect you wouldn`t see a lot of deer, but the deer you see would be big deer. Hunted it this afternoon, and, as kinda expected, saw nothing. First hunt of the year for me, and of course hunting with my Wicked Ridge Invader HP. It was an absolutely glorious afternoon, with the afternoon moon shining like a jewel in that bright blue sky. I had high hopes, but, there`s still a lot of hunting to be had, what with more than three weeks left of bow season before firearms opens. I hope to bust a doe for the freezer, and who knows, maybe there`s even another Pope and Young class buck in my future yet this season.

Been shooting my Bear Lights Out at the target for the most part since we got home from the woods. At 20 yards with a flash light and my lighted sights this is the results I have. Think I'm done for now, but shooting the target is easy, it doesn't move or blow your position.

Couple decent ones on cam from last few days. upload photoupload full resolution photoshost pictureHeres our Mac Daddy so far. bb code image hostingI played the trail cam cat and mouse game last year. It's nice knowing what's out there, but frustrating when they dont show face. I have come to grips that getting after them now, before the guns start hammering, increases the odds of seeing them slip up. Yes indeed, those are some dandys. Good luck on your quest deadeer

Well so far hasn't been a busy. Had 1 come down the hill behind us and cross the ditch, but then disappeared. My son said if he sees it, it's down. I kinda laughed and reminded him that the crosshairs don't light up and we could barely see 15 yrds in front of us. I also reminded him that my sight bar on my bow does illuminate the sight pins, and he just hung his head lol

A four point and six point have been feeding in front of me and my daughter since day break. Nothing big enough to tempt her.
