Killed a yearling tonight. Had 4 does come in about 5:45 and I shot the smallest one. Hunting a reduction zone so needed a doe to take a buck. Turned out to be a button buck.

Went to a reliable public land spot last night (where I got my Avatar buck last year). Sat on the ground which isn't something I typically do, but wanted to keep it simple for once. Found a fresh rub and backed up from it 25 yards and set up. Wind was in my face as I was facing the rub. Just after sunset I caught movement to my right of a big bodied deer moving my direction. I thought it was veering away from me but ended up broadside 8 yards in front of me. He pinned me down and I couldn't draw. He started to move so I tried to draw and he was gone! Blew at me a few times from 40-50 yards away and then meandered off to my left. Gathered my stuff and got out of there. Probably the biggest buck I've seen while hunting. I'll be back and I'll draw sooner and probably be in a tree too.

I realize my story would have had a different ending if I was using my crossbow. Just something about the compound I don't want to give up. However, I think I may take the crossbow next time if I know I'll be hunting from the ground...maybe.

I chased the turkeys out of the food plot when I went to get the card from the camera. 45 min later when I went to put the card back in the camera, I had to chase the turkeys out of the food plot again. Only at the most 20 yds from the stand. Guys, FWIW, it helps to turn the trail cam "on" if you want to take pictures................... Great tech advice there esshup😉 lol. Chased some turkeys off on my way back to the house this morning too. Didnt bag one this spring so would be as happy with a tom as I would a deer

Been a good morning for my first sit had a nice 8 walk by within the first hr, wanted to shoot but I think he has great potential for next year if he makes it. Two small bucks after him then five does that never gave me a shot.

Sat till 1030 this morning on the down wind side of a bedding area. No deer seen. Climb down and pack up. Walk up ridge and out of woods. 300 yards from stand site im slowly walking down a trail, arrow nocked, amd spot movement to my left. There are 3 deer 20 feet away standing browsing on a small trees leaves. Dont know who was more surprised. Think we spotted each other at the same time. Closest is quartered away but neck turned to look at me. Verify shes not a spike and slowly raise xbow to shoot. She spooks and bounds into woods. Surprisingly heads back to get down wind of me, nearly giving me a shot, then starts blowing and runs off taking the other two. Based on wind for tomorrow I should be able to sneak in on these deer if they bed in the same general area tomorrow morning. Another thicket at bottom of a ridge. Im having a lot of close encounters just not getting it done. Gotta be due

seen 3 bucks while driving the last 2 evenings before dark. Appears they are starting to cruise a little bit!! still recovering from knee surgery but hoping to get out this weekend some, the only downfall to that is if I shoot one I cant drag it out! Lucky for me I know a guy!

Figured I’d cap my long day of driving from Panama City beach off with a quick sit behind the house. Bumped at least one on my way down the hill. Hoping more are still on their way.

Well, it was an interesting sit. Wasn't paying enough attention to my hard left and about 15 Jakes appeared out of nowhere at less than 20 yds. Too many eyeballs, got busted trying to get the crossbow on one.
Had a doe do the back and forth dance at about 40 yds, then she disappeared back to the left. Then she re-appeared, with another doe the same size and twins born this year. I knew I needed to turn the stand more to the left, that will be accomplished tomorrow. No shot, but I had the twins under the stand and both adults at 10 yds. Maybe later this weekend..... Pulled the SD card. Couple of bucks, bunch of does. Looks like a 10 and an 8.
Turkeys up the wazoo on the trail cam.

Got to work till 11am in the morning then a mad dash to the house to pick up the Uncle, grab my gear and a mad 36 mile dash to the ground blind if nobody took it. Bad part of being on public land, seems not many people live by the sportsman code anymore. If I'm not there, your more than welcome to sit in my blind or stand, but please leave it for me to come back too.

First time out this year for me.
Almost got one right outside of Folsomville as it ran across the road in front of me.
Good luck to all and be safe!

Since I was running late last weekend I set the alarm for 30 minutes earlier I thought. I guess it ended up being an hour earlier. Factor that in with the later sunrise and I'm already in the stand waiting for shooting light.
