Had two screaming and on there way. Then, just then, the terrible sound of a hen. They shut there mouth and the party has stopped.

Finally had 2 strut in 18-20 lb. stubby beard. But I’m grateful and done. Haven’t got one for couple years. Mother’s Day dinner is set

Well, I managed to screw up my first set up this morning. I was able to get within 100 yards of the roost by using a hill as cover and at one point could see the bird. Stuck a couple of decoys out and hoped for the best. Once he flew down he went silent. Half hour later I heard a distant gobble so I get up and peek over the hill and nothing. So I snuck to the property line to look in the neighboring field and still don't see any birds so I walk back towards a little knob and climb up it to check it out to see if it's a good spot to set up on later. I squat down on the knob to check shooting lanes. After a few minutes of looking around I stand up and a tom flys off from within 20 yards of my original setup. Dang it.

Instead of taking the 60 yards or so straight path he decided the circle around the long way.

Had one gobble for an hour starting at legal light right until he flew down.
Found another over the hill. Watched him gobble and respond to calls but could barely hear him at about 200 yards across open fields. Two hens moved him off.
Hens have been alone and a few with toms since last Friday. Have yet to see any nesting. Long cold wet spring.

Heard 4 different gobblers. This one and his twin came in silent in full strut. 870 and long beard xr is a nasty combo at 25 yds

Got out of the woods around 11. Heard plenty of gobbling in the morning but the hens took them elsewhere. I was on my way out of the woods and heard gobbling close by so I sat down right where I was and did some calling. He gobbled back but never showed up. I can't get a bird to come to me. Guess it's just the name of the game.

No dice, I was walking out around 11 also. Gobbling was few and far between seem like 8:45 it stopped all together. Bird went the opposite direction. Thinking I might just set up in that direction tomorrow. Wish I could stay out later but it's time for the boy to PLAY BALL!
Hoping tomorrow he will tag along, I didn't want him tuckered out today before a game.

Getting ready to call it quits. No activity since that first bird at 0715-ish.

Hunted Big Oaks today. Heard two distant birds but that was it all morning. Standing water everywhere and this rain isn’t going to help.

Took my nephew on his first turkey hunt this morning. Heard lots of gobbling and hens talking in the trees. Two maybe three gobblers kept it up for a half hour solid. Only saw one hen about 930. Pretty sure we have the roost pinpointed and plan to set up where he can see the decoys from his limb tomorrow morning. Still not seeing any birds in the fields even driving up and down the country roads midday. Must be this weather.

Found a hen cached under some leaves, I'm guessing bobcat is the culprit.

Had a gobbler going crazy earlier today in a field behind the house. I took a mouth call down about half way to him and called. He hammered back immediately. I ran back and asked my son if he wanted to kill a turkey. We threw on some camo and went down to the creek to try and set up. Don’t know if he saw us or what, but after we set up he never answered another call and we never saw him. Still fun nonetheless. Now I think that put the big in him a little more and I bought his license so we can go where I killed mine in the morning.

Good luck to all who are out. I couldn't do it today. Four days of hiking muddy hills and stepping knee deep in a hole yesterday has my body tapping out. Gonna clean everything and rest today, back to work tomorrow
