I seen a Tom fly over I69 south of Bloomington yesterday at 1pm. When he landed on the embankment I was just passing him, and boy did he have a beard on him. Wednesday morning on the way to work a hen mocked me crossing the road, luckily the person behind me and I had enough time to break for her.
Hopefully these are signs for a good season for me. I couldn't be happier with the weather maybe it helped me out for tomorrow. Just hope the creek isn't too high that has to be crossed. Praying not a long drive for a turnaround. But I could hit Greene Sullivan or Morgan Monroe. Never been to Greene sullivan. Gonna have to drive over there after work next week to check it out To have as future back up plans...

Well that was fun.
Apparently she was unimpressed with the decoys. She got within 90 yards, yelped about 100 times, shoot water off, the ran 60 yards towards the opposite woods.
I called once she stopped and got 2 gobbles from across the creek. I should have brought a more comfortable chair.

I'll be out at about 3 this afternoon. I've got the truck packed with a blind/etc. to set up for the rainy days ahead.

I wonder how well the blind will hold up to snow? Depending on who you listen to, and what computer model they quote, we could see 1.8" to over 6" of snow tomorrow here in northern Indiana.....

Sometimes, you just get plain lucky. I was setup in a blind and watching my decoys look like drunken dogs chasing their tails in the wind in Ohio county. I should've been paying attention to the field, like a great hunter would do. Instead, I was reading this forum and the local news app when I caught movement. This guy came into the decoys and was on top of them before I had even seen him. I hadn't heard any talking and so I hadn't made a peep all morning. He was in half strut when the wind decided it was a good time to bend my strutter decoy over and he then got a little spooked. At this time, he decided it might be a good time to start heading back to the woods. I was born at night but not last night and I knew I wasn't about to wait around and see if he would make it. Put the red dot on his neck and let the 935 bark and that was that. Not a super exciting hunt but still better than any day at work. Good bird with 10.5 in beard, 1 and 3/32 and 1 and 1/8 spurs.

I’ve had a couple of “surprises” like that!
It is a wake up call for sure!
Thanks for sharing...
Getting ready to head up for an afternoon hunt.
Good luck to all!

What a morning. Quite a few bloopers today. First, coyote chased turkeys out if the field first thing. And came back once they did! Deer came into my decoys snorting and stomping around. I had 2 long beards enter the field 300 yards out. Fanned and hit the gobble call and they started to come. After waiting a little bit, I leaned forward to see where they were and they'd made it to about 65 yards. Leaned back into the chair only to hear PUTT! I was so engrossed in the two coming from the north I hadn't even noticed the one south of me. He spooked the other two and the rerouted. I called and did a series of cutts on my box call and they actually turned and started coming back! Then here comes the farmer driving across the field. Rough morning to be underdressed too for that wind.

I came around a set of pines heading for the food plot blind.
I always ease around it because I have caught turkeys already in the field. Sure enough there was a hen pecking around about 25 yards north of the blind
Bummer!
I stood there awhile contemplating what to do. I did not want to be caught standing, all dressed in black, by a longbeard. So finally I decided to go get in the blind. By the time I got halfway to the blind she had left. Not sure if she flushed or just walked off.
Decoys are out and I’m where I wanted to be.
It’s a bit windy but nice..

Got out a few minutes ago. Awful windy here, they'll have to be close to hear them tonight.

Just had a couple hens come in after I called a bit.
One has a 2" stubby beard. She/he is half again as big as the unbearded one..

I'm out for an evening hunt. It's very nice out but very windy. I'm sitting in a spot I know they roost in so here's hoping they head back here today.

I ended up watching that hen circle the field for a bit over 2.5 hours before she headed into the woods. I got to see the local eagle on my walk out. Tomorrow is another day.
