Well, the spot I chose last night had a whole lot of human sign and not much bird sign. Several vehicles had been in/out and I cut probably a half-dozen sets of boot tracks. I did get one turkey gobbling the next ridge over, but as open as the bottoms are right now there was no way I could get over to him without him seeing me, and he wasn't interested in coming to me.

Depending on the weather I may get out tonight, will definitely be out Friday night to try and pinpoint some birds for Saturday morning.

I keep checking this from my desk. This thread is much quieter than it was yesterday.

On my drive down to the camper I saw three different fields with strutters in them. Saw a guy hunting a private field. Could see his blind and decoys and vehicle parked at the road. About two hundred yards through some woods is a public field. Big ole tom out there by himself just strutting away. Figured he was strutting to the guys calls but wasn’t gonna walk though those swampy woods. I just kinda laughed to myself. That’s the way it always goes.

Not from the woods, but the smoker! Mmmmmmmmm.

I saved the leg/thigh combo to do the same with. I’ve never smoked turkey before. My kids and wife would kill me if I tried to smoke the breast. Cut into chunks and fry, add a little season salt afterwards, and it’ll be gone as soon as it hits the plate.

Depending on the weather I may get out tonight, will definitely be out Friday night to try and pinpoint some birds for Saturday morning. I'll be hitting the Lawrence county woods for the next couple days. Let you know if I hear anything promising for you. Got a couple spots I'm pretty convinced don't get tromped on much.

I had my fastest hunt opening morning with a bird down at 6:40. I was walking a trail when he gobbled from the roost and I was 60 yards away! I quickly and quietly stepped to the side and sat down by a large pine. He gobbled several times in the tree then flew down. I made some soft mouth calls and scratched the leaves. He responded with gobbles and walked around the creek bottom. I made soft calls and scratched then shut up. He went quiet and walked up the trail to check out things out. Dropped him at 18 yards with Winchester LB's 21 lb. 10.75" beard and 5/8 spurs

Took the morning off from work. Headed to the woods in about 15 minutes. Birds will be a little water logged I think.

I’m sitting in the garage waiting for rain to quit. Shouldn’t last much longer. Then I’m off to find a gobbler.

It's moist out.
I found birds last night on the farm. Unusual, but I'll take it. I'm concerned about their whereabouts this morning after the storms that moved through overnight.
But hey, we have a few new ponds.

Just had a hen fly down 130 yards out and slowly working this way. Hopefully the strutter that was with her yesterday is close behind

She angled away across the field to about 220 but is currently meandering back this way. About 120 now. I thought I heard some gobbling a few minutes ago, but it came from the neighbors. If he flys down in the woods I don't think he'll get up to cross the creek.
Its been a great year to watch hens so far.
